    Physical Therapy vs. Personal Training

Thanks for the quick reponse. Is it common for DPTs to hold leadership positions in the fitness industry?

    Physical Therapy vs. Personal Training

I currently hold a bachelor's degree, and am in the process of applying to physical therapy schools to attain a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. However, my passion is fitness, not necessarily rehab. I am trying to decide on whether to complete the DPT degree, or obtain a personal...

    Overwoking the back?

Yes sir, I sure am! Muscles are made in the kitchen, not in the gym, right? Thanks to everyone for all the replies.

    Overwoking the back?

Sai: Thanks for your advice. What is your opinion on not working out my forearms, traps, and hip abductors directly? As long as I utilize primarily compound movements for the rest of my exercises, I should hit most, if not all, of those "left-out" muscles... correct?

    Overwoking the back?

Thanks ExtraMile for your help. I began training at age 15, and stopped at 21 when university began. I'm now 25, and about to start back up again. Needless to say, I am really rusty, but I still have it in me. Thanks again. To anyone else: I will appreciate any other tips... thanks.

    Overwoking the back?

To my knowledge, the primary muscles of the back are the rhomboids (middle back), lats, and traps. I currently work each of theses muscles twice per week. Therefore, my back workout looks something like this: Barbell bent-over rows Dumbbell rows pull ups lat pulldowns barbell shrugs dumbbell...

    Schooling: Check, Experience: None

I understand... great insight. A graduate degree is supposed to be an investment in which a payoff results. What is the payoff of a exercise-related graduate degree in the fitness industry? Higher salary? Management possibilities?

    Schooling: Check, Experience: None

Here is my situation: I currently hold a B.A. in English, and have a stable 9-5 job. However, I am interesting in changing careers and becoming a personal trainer. Although I can simply obtain a personal training certification (CPT) and begin working, I would first like to obtain a Masters of...

    Pre-Loading Muscles

On pg. 9 of the NSCA-CSCS Essentials textbook, the concept of pre-loading is presented: "[when] high tension is devloped in a muscle even before movement occurs... because the weight must be supported isometrically." By "isometrically," are they referring to "isometric muscle contractions?"...

    NSCA-CSCS = personal trainer?

I just spoke to a few personal trainers, and they answered my question.

    NSCA-CSCS = personal trainer?

To my knowledge, the NSCA-CSCS certification prepares an individual to work primarily with athletes. However, if one holds the CSCS certification, is it possible to work as a personal trainer at fitness clubs such as Bally's, L.A. Fitness, Lifestyles, etc.? Or would you first have to obtain a...
