Operation "Odyssey Dawn" = Gulf War III?

Under the War Powers Act, the president has 90 days after introducing troops into hostilities to obtain congressional approval of that action.

what are they going to do, say no after the fact and cause an even bigger clusterfuck LOL

Bookie event on Obama not getting congressional approval anyhow. The Chosen one is too good for that, only the little people need approval.

We (the US) just bombed Libya.

Operation Odyssey Dawn: U.S. Launches Military Strikes In Libya

I'd love to hear from someone who opposed Afghanistan and/or Iraq but supports this one.

Similarly, I'd love to hear from someone who supported Afghanistan and/or Iraq but opposes this one.

I supported Afghanistan in the limited capacity of destroying Al Queda....no nation building. I opposed Iraq but it should be pointed out that Bush received congressional approval for both wars....Barry, the only sitting President to receive the Nobel Prize for Peace has engaged in an illegal war of aggression...Where are all the liberals and especially Code Pink calling him Hitler...Long live King Obama!

Good Salon article on the matter...

Obama on presidential war-making powers - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com

Q. In what circumstances, if any, would the president have constitutional authority to bomb Iran without seeking a use-of-force authorization from Congress? (Specifically, what about the strategic bombing of suspected nuclear sites -- a situation that does not involve stopping an IMMINENT threat?)

OBAMA: The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

Under the War Powers Act, the president has 90 days after introducing troops into hostilities to obtain congressional approval of that action.

I consider the "War Powers Act" unconstitutional...Congress can't delegate constitutional authority for waging war. Acts of war, non defensive, MUST be approved by congress, even candidate Obama....the former Constitutional law professor agreed with me...:)Till he was elected king....

And your opinion on that will matter when you're appointed to the Supreme Court.

Well, my opinion is supported by numerous constitutional scholars including pre president Barry...Just sayin' that because I don't have a vote doesn't mean I'm not right...

I've actually had to swallow some bile tonight watching Rachel go on and on about the reluctant warrior Obama....I was hoping MSNBC would actually show some objectivity...Apparently, their entire prime time lineup is bizzaro Hannity...

Oh, for the record I have just as much legal education as every member of the Supreme Court and more than many prestigious justices of the past...

The funny part is how politically motivated the discussion of this subject has been. I don't mean just here in this thread, but everywhere, in the press, online discussions, blogs, personal conversation... 'Cause if McCain was President he'd have done it sooner than Obama did.

And how is it then that The War Powers Act has somehow existed since the 1970s without being challenged by the Supremes? Like it or not, it's the law of the land.
