I came late to the party.... please explain....

Re: I came late to the party.... pleaase explain....

Things haven't been good in the US since you left, sweetie.

So other than what is read on the news I havent experienced living in the US since 99, please give me some insight on Obama's goverment, I dont kn ow if it's been good or bad, Im tempted to think bad because no campaign promises have really been met, the trillions in stimulus packages and such didnt seem very helpful, but on the other hand I havent been here long enough to actually know first hand, can u tell me about the good and the bad? if you're in the mood u may or may not compare to Clinton or Bush...

Re: I came late to the party.... pleaase explain....

do u think I came back @ a bad time?

IDK, do the Costa Rican Presidents promise to fill the fucking potholes there? What is the deal with the bottomless pits that spot your streets/sidewalks?

CR Presidents may be lying bastards but none promise to fix the streets, they are realistic :( I dont know WTF is up with that shit, they keep making bad quality asphalt streets in a tropical country, once they tried a cement blend and the street they tested is still immaculate but they never made more... it's very stupid considering the main income is tourism and that puts off tourists

Where is that street? I would love to skip down it - maybe do a cartwheel. I fell in so many goddamn holes in San Jose - I think I might have broken some kind of record.

Here's the Cliff's Notes summary:

1) Our government is huge and getting bigger at an unprecedented rate.

2) We may be too far gone anyway because we owe too much.

3) The middle class is being destroyed.

4) The jobs that Barry is running out of this country aren't coming back.

Welcome back!!!

:)

Re: I came late to the party.... pleaase explain....

I've given up on it. We overstepped our bounds. GDP growth will not get us out of it this time.

I hate politics. I thought we would just muddle back and forth for eternity and it wouldn't really affect me, that all that mattered was my personal effort and earning and that would take care of it. Not true anymore though, my naiviete. Naivety. Naiviteity.

The country will be fine for our generation. There is enough infrastructure and American company power to stabilize the next couple decades, but we have doomed the country, at least for anyone who imagines the prosperous opportunistic America that was before.

Our kids will have a country where we are all equal, and all poor, because of what we spent and our trillions of dollar over budget that is planned for the next 10 years. I don't know if Ayn Rand is rolling over in her grave or smiling at the actualization of her work. I read her books with interest but part of my eyes rolling, yet it is all coming true.

I HAVE A DREAM. That Mit Romney, et al can come in and fix everything, reverse the awful gears that have been set in motion. That's just my stupid hope that our country could be fixed again though, it can't. Such a waste what we did. FYI, Clinton was a genius for so many reasons it's sick, they guy was off the chart, so don't label me biased.

We now have what is called an upside down christmas tree folks, and it is the most unstoppable force in a country's universe. We have an aging population, who require significant monetary assistance. We have a very (relatively) small proportion of the young population contributing to the workforce, earning money to pay TAXES. So the old grow, the young population is dweening, and there are less working earning taxes so the tax rate goes up up up.

The great US companies will be crippled with every percentage point tax increase effected upon them year by year, until they are no longer competitive.

I'm going to say something that is a fact if nandogiggly wants to know about the country now. We now have our most intelligent population (by degree and earnings) having the smallest number of children per couple in history only 1.2 per couple, and getting married LATER in life, to put it in my words "dying out", and the proportion of our population who does not work is having children in spades. The American system does not provide an outlet or system for the poor to escape the poverty and they are succumbing to the same malaise of living together in a house of 10, nobody working or taking it seriously and LIVING OFF THE TAXES OF THE FEW WHO DO WORK, those 1.2 children out of 10 born who will work and earn.

Like I said before this sounds like fearmongering and it is right now. We are still dominant and our first mover advantage is unprecedented, we will support it for now and for a number of years to come without consequence.

It is not a race thing, it's a socioeconomic thing, but our support of not working has become even more OK under current establishment.

REVERSE CHRISTMAS TREE

The thing is you can't stop the reverse christmas tree. We had a rightside up Christmas tree in the early century, young workers, eager, lots of opportunities for advancement, many children per family who were wage earning individuals who taught the same values. And we kicked ass, combined with the American spirit we were unstoppable.

Now guess who has the rightside up Christmas tree? Vietnam. Other young Asian countries. They literally have millions of 14 year olds who are an outsized proportion of their total population who are dying to go to college and become productive individuals in the world. Scratch that, not just productive, they want to get to America.

And beat us.

I know you must be in conflict, considering your status as a gov employee and yooper, making twice as much as someone in a similar position working in the competitive market. My niece works for the DoD in Columbus and they have had their pension plan re-modeled to the 401k to mirror the private sector because the 1960's pension system is unsustainable, even public sector unions are being forced to face reality.

Wow! Thanks for the news flash.

That only happened a quarter of a century ago.

Have The Beatles reunited?

The Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) is the current retirement system for employees within the U.S. federal civilian employees. FERS was enacted on June 6, 1986 to replace the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and to conform Federal retirement plans in line with those in the private sector.

She can't retire at fifty-five...just sayin'.

depends on your grade

if she's a secretary then prob not

someone in a professional series, e.g. accountant, engineer, etc ... that goes to work for Uncle Sugar straight from college and enters the GS-07/09/11 career track and prob a GS-12 by age 30 could easily retire on Sug's retirement plan at age 55 (assuming they start at age 22 they'd have 33 years of service)

He's done damage that may be irreparable.

Re: I came late to the party.... pleaase explain....

please elaborate...:)

I was a kid during Carter, but I remember it vividly because our family business was being built during that time.

Carter came along with a very liberal, big-government agenda and employers seized-up. There was massive uncertainty around labor policy, energy costs, monetary policy, etc. etc. It drove a lot of companies to automate, offshore or otherwise reduce labor.

But the system worked. Carter only won one term and behind him came Ronald Reagan who was a very caviler, pro-business, tax-cutting conservative. He convinced employers that Carter was an anomaly and that we should all just get back to work.

Now here comes Barry. He's worse than Carter, but the system isn't responding quickly enough. He's brought the same terrible big-government ideas, but he's cementing them into law (i.e. the health care bill). Businesses are frozen like they were under Carter, just worse.

So now even if the system works again and Barry only wins one term, another Ronald Reagan won't help. First, much of the damage is already in law and we don't have the will or ability to eliminate entitlements. Second, Barry proves Carter wasn't a fluke. So even with another Reagan, businesses will always know we're just one idiot away from being right back into paralysis. Going forward businesses would rather just not take the chance so they'll downsize / offshore / outsource for good from this point on.

Maybe you should have kept your nice, offshored job in CR, with the lower cost of living?
not at all, i dont regret for a second coming here, im better not just economically but the way I eat and feek is completely different, i feel safe, energized, i eat right, if i had to go back it would really be hard, i would never go back willingly, my husband being denied entry is pretty much the only thing that would make me go back...

Bluntly speaking...

It will be ok here if you or your husband have the specialized job skills or access to capital. If not, it won't get instantly bad but it will get steadily worse.

The people who snag the jobs left over will be more productive and will actually get more pay. That's how the middle class is being destroyed. Instead of 50 people working desk jobs, the jobs will be outsourced to a few IT staff and a few managers who can operate globally. The few people left over may make more money than any of the previous 50, but there will be far fewer of them (in the US, that is).

Every time the government squeezes the private sector with taxes, regulations or mandates it simply forces them to seek higher productivity from employees.

well right now i dont have the best job, it's not minimum wage but it's not great, however i have gotten multiple job offers offering at least 50% or more, I cant take it yet because I need stability and the US embassy may not like me moving around jobs since Im a sponsor for my husban, im confident when he gets here I will find a WAY better job, let alone when i get board certified and start practicing.

RS better not catch you offering your services to any terminal patients!

All kidding aside, you should be fine. You won't be seeing tons of well-reimbursed, private-pay patients in the future though. I'd get good at treating tons and tons of opiate and synthetic opiate addicts and billing the gubment. That's going to be good money if you can deliver the volume.

@pick3: depends on what causes the anxiety and to what degree there can be multiple treatments, pills dont work much, they numb you out and reduce the episode but dont eliminate the "threat" per se....

I would like to work mostly with senior population, have also thought of joining military and help with head injury soldiers to regain cognitive skills (memory, language, movement, etc) I have worked rehabilitating substance abuse paitents but it's not that gratifying to me as working with seniors, Mayo Clinic had offered me a job as soon as I finish my current degree, but it's in stand by due to the move to the US, hopefully soon I can pick it up and get certified, 6 figure salaries are paid in the specialty at this degree because they are few.... for now I'm a simple tech support agent that pays the bills and rent, lol as soon as my husband gets here and there are 2 paychecks home shits gonna change for good

Medicare fraud alert!!!!

RS will tell you those people are on the way out anyway. Don't you watch 60 minutes like he does?

that's exactly why i like them, cuz no one else does, family turn their back on them, law turns their back on them, body turns their back on them and even their mind does :(

I'm not familiar with "neuropsychology".

Wilki didn't list psychotherapy as a "method and tool" so I didn't know if "talk therapy", e.g. CBT, was something neuropsychologist practiced.

Neuropsychology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Personally I don't think all anxiety suffers have a hidden "threat". Anxiety is just a component of some peep's personality. You can see it in small children.

that's why I wrote threat in "" by that i pretty much mean a stimulus, children/people dont get anxious over nothing, it's under a situation, an object, a personal thought, an element,a person, many many things

that may be true, what I was suggesting is some people are more prone to suffer from anxiety/depression disorders because of their genetic wiring

you can watch children playing ... the majority acting like knuckleheads whimsically acting out whatever they find amusing at the time, while one kid quietly contemplates what kind of creature lives in a hole they discovered, or the meaning of cloud formations, or if Barry is playing Russian roulette with their future

point is ... some people are thinkers and worriers just like some or extroverts or overachievers by nature

Indeed, and SO many things play into that, education, culture, way parents raised you, genetic predisposition, it's pretty much bio-psico-social

So in otherwords youre getting a PhD in playing craps

LOL, that's what tests and interviews are for, to actually determine causes and courses of action, i obviously cant give an answer to something i have no info on.... not very professional, sorry to sound ambiguos/vague....

Evolutionary medicine has explained anxiety as a positive survival trait.

I have vid with Dawkins and Nesse in the religion forum explaining the new field of evolutionary medicine.

but, I'm not a heathen

Just use the rationalization that Yahweh used evolution as his tool and the creation story is just that...My ex... Melody was a chem and biology major and that's how she reconciled her beliefs with science.
You can still believe in Zeus and accept science if you are willing to do some mental gymnastics.
