Here are some decent market prices:

3-5 year old private school in a mid-sized city (i.e. Knoxville) = 8K

5-9 year old private school in knoxville = 10k

9-12 = 12k-14k

Rhodes tuition = 50k
Vanderbilt tuition = 55k

The other schools my daughter is looking at are princeton and dartmoth, which both run about 50k-60k/year

Land a research assistantship with dollars attached to the position.

That's what I did at Vandy in 1987 and they threw-in the cost of undergraduate tution as well!

It was awesome. I got paid $1,300/month for going to Vandy undergrad and grad school at the same time. But the course loads sucked... 20 - 24 hours per semester wasn't fun.

I'm praying for a discount bc my aunt is a grad professor in the school at NYU (only school I know that offers it) my program is in.

A lot of the hard sciences (i.e. not sociology), math and engineering come with full rides.

I actually don't know why my program is in the school. It's not an art at all, more tech based if anything.

I'm teutonically ignorant and culturally sterile. And strangely enough, I don't feel the need to change.

I don't dislike art, music, fine food, etc. etc. -- I just don't connect with it. It saves me a fortune on dinner tabs, wine bills and show tickets though.

I do, for some reason, connect with Persian rugs. The idea that someone spent a year or two of their life creating a piece of art that also serves a purpose is really cool to me.
