Carbs for bulking?

Why are carbs important for bulking, i think Valdez mentioned 3.5g /lb of bodyweight. I thought that protein was more important.

What foods should i be getting carbs from, is wholemeal bread ok?

During a bulking phaze, you need looks of carbs. General rules are 3.0-4.0g/lb or body weight, and 1.0 g of protein. When you cut down, that's when the protein comes up and the carbs go down. Of course if you don't wnat to put on too much extra fat then go midway, but you need a tonne of calories to build and to stay strong whilest lifing heavy.
