What Was The Best Video Game Ever?

curling

New member
I would have to say n64's "Goldeneye". There is simply none better or more challenging. Grand Theft Auto 3 is bad ass and a close 2nd but "Goldeneye" still was more challenging than it. So my vote goes to "Goldeneye" as the best and most challenging video game ever.

And I will debate this point to anyone that disagrees but surely everyone concurs to this fact that's right I said "fact". :D

Half-life (Along with Counter-Strike)
Doom -Hey it's the original

Legend of Zelda - Link to the Past (SNES)

Gran Turismo 3 (PS2)

I personally got the most enjoyment out of the Half-life engine (which is a modifed Quake2 engine)

So I vote Half-Life. Without that there'd be no Team Fortress, CS, Day of Defeat.

Doom --- without a doubt has had the largest impact on the games ever.

All of Tomb Raider.

Death Mall 3000

and EA Sports has a Boxing game that is great.. (I love Boxing)

PONG

PONG!

I got it yesterday! Wow, the graphics of that little white blip bouncing around the screen is so frigging clear, its amazing.

I have to echo 69Muscle's post; Half-Life is the best game of all time.

I'm bored with it now, but the game was so revolutionary when it first came out (plus it built on the best aspects of previous 1st person shooters) that it will always be #1 for me.

Oh, and an honerable mention goes to the very first Wing Commander. For those of you who don't remember, it was the very first game that really pushed the limits of computer memory and hardware. It essentially changed PC's from business machines to really expensive gaming consoles. :)

GALAGA RULES!!

Dragon's Lair really changed them to be truly interactive though, instead of stuff like Pac-Man that was very scripted, with poor graphics!

Don't any of you people have good taste? :D

Goldeneye is the best I mean have any of ya'll played it?

I am curious what is Half-Life about?

ddom and wolfenstein set it up, but golden eye was RIDICULOUSLY playable, especially for a console game.....its sequel perfect dark couldnt even match it. simple and fun....every level had its own little hiding place you could exploit.....its definately one of my choices

half life had a good story line too....

I love a lot of original nintendo games. They remind me of playing with my little sister when we were younger. We'd always swing the controllers around as weapons when we fought. I've been smacked in the head with one on more than one occasion.

Final fantasy 7 has a special place in my heart. I had an awesome month playing it in college.

Well for oyu die hard oldies (yeah you wodin) you might remember games like giana sisters (super mario rip off), dechatlon, track & field, all for the c64. that was pure playability, they didnt have much graphics to fall back on, so games had to be entertaining. and i remember when all the kids in the neighbourhood would warm up their arms for the 1000m on the dechatlon..man we went thru many joysticks back then.

Ahhh before I started lifting I was a video game freak so here goes my list.

Final Fantasy 7- Is a wonderful game perfect storyline great graphics interesting chars just perfect.

GoldenEye- The KING of multiplayer games no matter who you are like shooting games or not you get 3 other guys together and play that game 4 player its a wonder that never ceases even after how long its been out its still the NUMBER ONE multiplayer game I have played on a console.

Final Fantasy 9- Another great story, chars, graphics, notice i skipped 8 well there was a reason because it sucked fat cock.

SUper Mario 64- Took literally MONTHS to beat this game with all 120 stars some of those things took what seemed like FOREVER to get 100coins in hazy maze cave hehe.

Max Payne- If you haven't played it PLAY IT if your computer can't handle it BUY A NEW ONE. This game is THAT GOOD hehe.

Multi User Domain- Known as MUD for short simply the greatest thing ever invented I played one called God Wars The Apoclaypse *sp* until the gods deleted me for my hrmm "attitude" I was the king of the realm hehe. Nothing will hold your interest like this thing can so I suggest nobody play muds as it will be devestating to your bodybuilding goals =). After they deleted me over a year ago I started lifting and changed my life so on second thought THAT GAME SUCKED =p.

Starcraft

Marathon, Marathon II, Marathon Infinity

starcraft has to be one of the best PC games ever made.

My favorite arcade game has to be the original quarter eater, Gauntlet. That one started it all.

Y'know, I played Gauntlet not all that long ago on PS2, and I still don't get it. Run around, kill a bunch of shit, and get points.

Oh well.

Almost forgot to mention: Madden NFL Football!

I must break you in starcraft and madden.

Okay, now, I'll accept that maybe, POSSIBLY you can beat me at Madden.

But there is NO WAY you can destroy me in Starcraft. None. Nein. Zero. :D

Do you have a laptop with you, or do I need to find a better monitor for my 2nd PC?

So many games I don't know where to start. One thing for sure is you can tell peoples age by what games they are saying is the best. Who said pong? I bet some of the younger people are saying "what is pong"?

Yep project that's basically it.
My boyfriend has an original stand-up version of this game (he loves it)
I prefer not to play it with him because it is no fun!
He always gets to pick up the good stuff (spells and health) while I get attacked by freaky wizard guys and ghosts.

I always liked Tron and of course Miss Pac man:)

All the EAsports NHL hockey. But my favorite game of all time is the game I played the most; WWF WRESTLEMANIA 2000 on the nintendo 64. We were playing almost every night with four player. We created our wrestlers, our ring entrys, our taunts, moves and physique and titles. We created our own matches and rules and the graphics were great. It was easy to play and realistic. It was really cool but I kind of stoped playing video games now and I kind of miss that game.

Anyone remember the original Metal Gear for Nintendo? How bout Spy Hunter?

NB, you're being suspiciously quiet about Starcraft here...

:lmao:

this is a mud with everything. you can choose all kinda classes, samurai, paladin are just some of them, there are tons of quests, and hundreds of different areas like Norway, Dragonlance, Rome and so on. there even is a special area called reikland, where PK'ing is allowed...its cool as shit

Street Fighter 2 revolutionized the industry :)

Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Virtua Fighter all came out because of that. Those types of games were "the thing" for several years.

Damn yo! I want in on this starcraft fest! I play the Protess (sp?)... I'll fly about a dozen cloked carriers into your shit hole and unleash hell! I'll rape your ghosts and send them crying back to mama! Although you have those fucking battleships..... Those take a licken!

I haven't played that in years.. I used to be ranked in the top 200 on battlenet... Those were the days.

Oh I'll stomp a mud hole into both of you protoss lovers!!!! Muhahahhahaa!!!!

Gotta watch out for those golden catapillar fireball shooting mofos. Thost guys wreak havoc if you can't get to em.

you're right. but street fighter came out cause of fighting masters.....

I think throughout the years i killed the most time with Ultima 3

Didn't Doom evolve from Castle Wolfenstein? i don't think it was revolutionary...

command and conquer plus the sequels

damn cool

oldest first
Neo-Geo - the one with the fighter who could change into a wolf or a samurai. I spent so much damn money...
Dune.. Death Hand missiles. Inaccurate, but once launched at you all you could do is scatter and pray
WarCraft.. first time I heard multiple quotes for each character
Command and Conquer! Commando - I got a present for ya!! BOOM!!! Ha ha ha.. that was my left hand. Hours of fun
StarCraft.. I play Terrans for sentimental value, but as Zerg I could kick anyone's ass

C&C is still one of my favourites

Another World - innovative fantasy, it was really cool. And it fit on a single diskette which was more amazing
Alone in the Dark - that first monster upstairs scared the crap out of me. Well all the monsters scared the crap out of me.

The 10 greatest games of all time. You might argue, but you're wrong.

In timeline order.

Pong (75)
The one, the original

Space Invaders (78)
Such Action! Such Drama!

Pac-Man (80)
The most popular video-game of all time.

Bard's Tale (85)
First person, cool graphics, and a huge world. C64 Heaven

Empire (87)
- First great turn based PC game. Take turns playing at work. Finally get to play against someone else! Several someones.

Ultima Underworld (92)
Before Quake, Doom, or even Wolfenstein - UU did it first First immersive 3D environment. I didn't sleep for 2 days

Doom (93)
Pure, unadulterated adrenalin. Fantastic graphics. Lighting effects. Vertical Axis 3D. Innovative Stereo Sounds. The first Mouse+Keyboard. Deathmatch. Smooth. Fast. 'Nuff said.

Warcraft II (95)
The greatest Realtime Stratey Game - Incredible - Zug-Zug!

Quake (96)
Rocked the world! What head-to-head could be. Was to gaming what Star Wars was to special effects movies.

Half-Life (98)
Quake Perfected. If not for the lame ending might be the number one. Half-life mod Counter-Strike is greatest online game.

Honorable Mention:
Freecell. Has any other game killed so much office-time?

In order of greatness:

1) Doom
2) Half-life
3) Ultima-Underworld
4) Bard's Tale
5) Pac-Man
6) Quake
7) Warcraft II
8) Pong

LOL @ space invaders.

Bards tale was pretty damn awesome.

Starcraft was a glaring omission however.

I agree with ya, NB. that list looks very similar to a list I saw in CGM a while back tho.

I don't know about CGM but these are all games I've played to distraction.

Starcraft, Civilization, are games I've been argued with should be on the list but the sad truth is I've never really played them that much.

Tomb Raider, Joust, Asheron's Call, Adventure, Zork, Sim City, Defender, Duke Nuke'm, Descent - wasted hundreds and hundreds of hours - lot of fun, but just not quite up there at the top.

anyone ever play a game called Archon? it was like a chess game but you had to fight for a square. Each piece had it's own strengths and weaknesses, and depending on which square you were fighting on would help either the black or white pieces. Good underrated game.

okay, now you've got to be kidding me. You played Archon too?

Man, I loved that game. C64 originally, then on the old Mac Plus.

I always liked playing the white side, with the phoenix. The black side had the banshee, but it just was not as cool...

Damn, that's almost enough to make me hook up the old Mac. Nothing like black and white games that fit on one floppy including boot files.

Ah I remember those days. When computers had NO hard drive in em! Whew.

The Resident Evil series (except Survivor), nothing else comes close!!
