Tarantino's new WWII flick

I like fantasy more than most...

The most realistic war films I've watched have been BlackHawk Down and Jarhead...Saving Private Ryan was a good try but I don't think it captured the futility enough.

really? my uncle said the opening scene was about as accurate as he could remember as he was on the beach. i guess the wwII vets who got up and left during the screening i was in crying may disagree too.

blackhawk down was completely inaccurate, you can research the hollywood in that and jarhead was boring and lame.

saving private ryan and platoon hit the mark. ask vets. my dad wont watch platoon anymore because he said he doesnt want to remember it and that was about as real as it was.

Saving Private Ryan is probably the best war flick out there

Indeed.

Band of Brothers is tied up with it.

The Pacific should be fucking awesome when it comes out.

Black Hawk Down was great. Sure did a good job embarrassing the military and clinton administration. well done Bill!

Stop Loss is great at showing how the govt sure loves to fuck soldiers. Why? "Cuz they can" :)

The opening scene mirrors the official account of Dog Green sector of the Normandy beach...I lived Jarhead...and it's VERY accurate. Blackhawk Down caught the chaos factor perfectly much like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.

As far as Platoon, my brother in law earned his CIB in Vietnam and while he liked the movie it "tried too hard" in his opinion.

As a combat veteran, movies like Saving Private Ryan and Platoon try to "over think" the common soldier.

There is a decent documentary called "Gunner's Paradise" that deals with Iraqi Freedom.

"War is hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror."

Meh...overthinking geighness...I give them credit but they try to make war an intellectual endeavor. Unless you've been there...you won't understand it. I've shared beers with other vets and all wars are the same and all are different.
