should men avoid multi vitamins with iron?why? are the packets of vitamins/minerals better than the compressed ones?

Personally i don't avoid iron all together. You need a certain amount of iron, helps w/ red blood cell production, and prevents certain kinds of anemia. How much we need is a lot less than women b/c we don't bleed like they do. My multivitamin does have iron in it, it's AST's multivitamin, which i take twice a day. Remember iron is not found in any foods you eat, and cereals for example w/ iron are fortified w/ iron. They have little pieces of iron in there that you can take out w/ a magnet. (pretty cool trick they taught me as a kid). So you do want to take at least a minimal amount.
