this probably sounds stupid but i cant figure out how to hold a weight while doing an ab crunc. Im using a dumbell, if i try on my chest and by arms tend to lift it, or it restricts my motion. I am currently holding the thing just above my forehead and trying not to move it, but it doesn't work. There is probably a really simple way to do it, i just can't figure how. If any one can help, it would be much appreciated.

I always hold the weight behind my head. Use a plate if you're crunching with 25lbs or less. If you go above 25lbs, use a dumbbell since 35lb and 45lb plates are just a tad bit too big to keep behind your head. =)

You can also put a plate on your chest.

Hey man, I just read in muscle media about doing weighted crunches. This isn't what they recomended (they didn't tell how to do them...just how many reps) but what I do is, take 2 dumbells....for me usually 30 lb dumbells. And as I get in the crunch position I place the end of the dumbells on my front delts and hold them there....then I just crunch up, its very easy and gives you great resistance. Ive been doing it about 3 weeks now and am seeing great results. Just do about 3 sets of 12. Also it is very important.....do lying leg raises. Use one of those straps and place your feet in them. Set the weight on the cable system to the desired setting. Sit on the end of a free weigh bench and lift and lower your legs slowly for about 3 sets of 12.
