Do you always work them with your legs, or do you hit them more often than legs because it's a denser muscle?

I hit them about every 2 or 3 days.
I don't hit them with thighs cause my thigh workouts make me walk funny enough.

JohnyO, I totally agree with timac. If I try to hit calves after legs I'm just way to beat. I try to hit them every other day, and at least every third.

They are same Muscle fibre as Forearms, you have to go higher reps, and twice a week. I Usually do 15-25 per set, depending what I can force out of em. I go to failure every set with calves.

I am 6 ft 4 in so its hard for me to get big calves. BLoated, you think the 5 days a week added mass to your calves?

Because of time contstraints I super or giant set. Alternating higher rep set 25 - 40 w/low rep set 8 - 12. Damn NOTHING burns like calves!!!!! One bent leg w/one straight leg exercise. I also found that cardio-kickboxing brought those bastards the fuck out! I try to work them twice in a cycle.

well im gonna get flamed for this. I very rarely hit calves. the last time I measured my quads were only at 23, probably 24 now, and my calves were at 17. Well, that dont look so good as far as semitry. I have popey legs. Till my legs get into proportion, Im only hitn them every now and then.

I work them once a week and do about 4-5 sets of ten. For me its just how hard you squeeze them and strain them. Mine are huge and defined.

Well - I split quads and hams anyway. I'll do 5 sets of calves on leg press on quad day.
Then for hams, I'll do seated leg curls with toes pointed up, which is a mid-range movement for calves. I'll finish them off with 3 sets on standing calf raises and 3 sets of seated.

Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It realizes that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve to death.

The moral?

It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up - you had better be running.

it's nothing special...i focus on them since they are my weakest part...so i try to do them early in the routine, and sometimes ill go in and just do abs, calves, and some cardio...calves are really painful when exercised properly (for me) thus i need to have some mental stamina to get through it...

i alternate heavy and light days...on the light days, i will do 20-30 reps, and i really focus on squeezing at the top and going up on my big toe...you will feel a deep contraction when done properly...it has taken me a long time to get my form down...

heavy days i go 10-15 reps....and will try to go to failure...on my last few reps, i don't even come close to a full range of movement...more like a deep stretch up to horizontal...

plus i just did my first cycle...that helps...

I think building calves depends on the individual more than any other bodypart.I've done em every way you can think of and found for me hitting them hard and HEAVY once a week gives me great results.I usually end up doing them at home with shrugs and forearms.
2-3 sets of standing.2-3 sets seated.
