Ok, I have been looking at a few different Digital cameras to buy. I don't know what all of the jargon means but i'm pretty sure I want one that is at least 3.1 mega pixels. I will be attending a lot of amatur and professional bodybuilding shows this season because a friend of mine is a fitness competitor so I will be there to cheer her on. I also want to to see the size of the guys in the amatur shows.
I have been looking at the Fuji FinePix 4900 because it has a decent zoom and is over 3.1 mega pixels. I need the camera to have a decent amount of zoom because sometimes the seats at the shows are far from the show. I have found a lot of digital cameras that are over 3. 1 mega pixels but they all have a weak zoom. For any of you that know anything about the zoom, I am looking for one that has at least a 6x optical zoom. I am willing to spend up to 1200. Because I know at that price I should be getting one of the highest quality I can get and it will last me a long time.
What type of digital camera do you guys have? I would like to know what you guys recommend and where to look. Best Buy and Circut City didn't have the Fuji that I was looking for. The reason that I want it to have at least 3.1 mega pixels is because from what I have read, the higher the pixel rating, the higher the quality and clarity the picture will be. It sucked right at the beginning of the night show at the Pro Ironman, my 35mm camera broke so I only had the pictures that I took at the prejudging. That is when I knew it was time for a new camera. I hope you guys can help me out. Thanks. Tyler

I have a Kodak DC290 Zoom - I love it. It has great pic quality for a digital camera and tons of features (I have to actually read the manual if I want to use them all I suppose).
I took photography classes in college, but it never really interested me that much (read - I was never that good at it ) - but a coworker who is really big into it all tells me that so far none of the digital cameras are that great if you want to do professional stuff, or if you want to output them to really nice prints - but the 3.1mp ones are great for web/computer stuff.

find a photography site on the web - or even epinions and the reviews on cnet and amazon as well - they are usually pretty good. each camera usually has one thing it is really good at - some don't take that great a picture, but the software it comes with is good for helping it out (still can't beat the photoshop retouched photo).

I definitely recommend the kodak though for picture quality (great even before computer manipulation).
