how much would a new carberator installed cost? what about rebuilding the carberator. on average, what do things like this cost. is this job extremely hard, ie can i do it myself. or should i leave it to a mechanic.

Due to the year it was built and the emissons level of that year you WILL have to rebuild it. No one makes carbs for street rides, or least no one. You might have luck with a aftermarket rebuilder, but I had to take 2 units and retured them till I found #3, which worked, different manufacture, but the same shit.

This rebuild may or may not requirement of skilled technician, not just a mechanic. These devices could require a hook up to a computer, and with out the software and related hardware, you out of league.

I did have no problems with passing the Dept. of Motor Vehicles when it went through. They asked me why it was running so clean with the milage, and then showed them it had rebuild in it. This proved to me what I suspected all along, but otherwise it was
clean runner. Rebuilds can and do work, just finding the right one is another.
