I want to make internet explorer my default browser. A long time ago I set a password on it that I do not remebmer, I have tried every password I can think of and its not correct becuase it used a long series of numbers. Can someone tell me how to access internet explorer without having the password? I turned the restrictions on high so now I can't even get into elite. I have to use netscape until then. Someone please help me out here.

I did, this is a completly different version. Hopefully Johnny0 or harmonic sees this. All the password info is stored on your comp so no matter what version you get it just migrates the files over to the latest version.

find the file that has your password setting. did you look at if you have an old folder after you remove it from you computer? check in your program files. if its still there, delete it and start from scratch.

I need more specific help, I have checked by typing in "parental control password" and "content advisor" but did not find a file with the password.

Mother fuck, something just happened on my computer while I was typing all this out. Anyway, shut down all your programs (including IE esp), go to the start bar, then run. type regedit.
no in the left hand pane of regedit, go to H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then drill down to /Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Policies.
Then click on the Ratings folder, then in the right pane of the regedit window, you will see something called "key" - delete it (highlight it and press delete).
Then close that program and say save if it asks you to.
restart your computer and open IE - choose view, then internet options. then click on the content tab and click on disable - if it asks you for a password, don't enter anything - just click OK.

(when you are at that spot in the registry - if there are multiple keys in there, delete everything except the "default" one)

that should do it.

go to the tools menu, then go to the options menu, then programs - down at the bottom there is a checkbox for IE to check to see if it is your default browser.
