based on the new advertising campaign for the Army.....

I AM AN ARMY OF ONE

I am the 18-24 year old being targeted by this new marketing
concept, the very embodiment of "what's in it for ME." The legacy of
the politically correct years. It's okay to be immoral and a pervert, and
if anyone tries to mold me too vigorously into a something that resembles
a warrior, I'll tell my congressperson!

I AM AN ARMY OF ONE
Teamwork? My chain of command consists of ME, MYSELF, and I. I'm
destined to be a dot-com millionaire. Just give me all that college
money, and take it easy on the discipline stuff. When divisions of
Chinese are racing toward my outpost like rabid lemmings I'll break out
my stress card and pack my Task-Force-Smith-smellin' ass back to Milwaukee.

I AM AN ARMY OF ONE
I have Carpal-Tunnel Syndrome, I'm great at Nintendo, and my
androgenous, sensitive physique can't handle 10 properly-executed
push-ups. I couldn't blast my way into an old folk's home, let alone
stand my ground in an impromptu bar room brawl. I am a product of social
engineering and 6 hours of TV a day; my idea of a "Survivor" is not a
Medal of Honor winner who killed three Vietnamese with his e-tool
before being shot and left for dead, but a pudgy, manipulative gay guy on an
island shared with other losers.

I AM AN ARMY OF ONE
Concepts like duty, honor, and country are passe'. If it Involves
sacrifice of my individuality to become part of a team, I'll punch out
and spend the rest of my life hanging out with my Microsoft employee
slackerbuddies in Seattle, speaking in learned tones about an
unfortunate period in my life where I endured the indignities of military service.
Oh, the Patton movie? Haven't seen it.

I AM AN ARMY OF ONE
Gimme Gimme Gimme. What can I do for my country? Ha. Let me ask
that after I've feathered my nest like so many of the non-veteran,
draft-dodging, privileged Ivy Leaguers populating Capitol Hill. Cater
to me first, pander to me as an individual, and after I don the uniform,
continue to treat me with kid gloves, and let me punch out before
things get really tough-where I might actually have to risk my life for my
country,

because...

I AM AN ARMY OF ONE!!!!

They really need to spend more of their budget on new commercials.

Buck,

The only Marines I have ever really worked with were Battalion or Force Recon. Really squared away guys.

I don't know about those other specialties, but I can tell you that many of the support units on the Army resemble a third world country's ragtag force. This slogan won;t help.

u make me feel guilty. i go to MEPS on feburary 20th. i sign my life away to the NAVY for 4-6 years. and i feel guilty cause i asked what jobs come with bonuses. and the recruiter told me its not always about money, its about doing what u are good at and doing it right. i had to agree with him on that one. i am going to the navy to become a military police.. or MA(master at arms) for the navy.. and when i get out. i plan to go into the ATF or the border patrol.. probably border patrol.. cause i think doing a job like that will help everyone out.. but that is a damn good post and i will remember it through bootcamp.

MeanFreak,

Just go there and do your best. Enjoy it too. It can be fun. No one is in the military for the money, unless they're delusional.

If it means anything to you, I (as a veteran and citizen) appreciate you joining and serving.

You couldn't have said it better. This new Army advertisement thing is embarassing. If I hear one more goddamn military commercial advertising what companies will hire you afterwords, how much money they will give you for college, or how many countries you will see, i think i'll kick in the TV.
The Marine Corps commericals are still the best....'If you think you have what it takes....' There ya go...in a nutshell...

That is a good post bro. Just got done watching that shit. Your right the things that use to meen something dont anymore. But fuck for me to join something that makes me do whatever some sob tells me better make it worth my while the arm forces would suck. Sure it would be fun to play with guns and shit but that would be about the only good part.Aslo had a buddie in the marines he got payed something like 250-not more than 350 a week. I could make that at 7/11 glad those bros are there though to defend our country.

The new add campaign is a little on the soft side. But it is appealing to the new generation, lets be serouis kids today dont have what we have. I have been in the military for 9 years and find nothing more rewarding than serving my country. Yes MATT your right the support personel in the military arent the same breed as the infantry or combat fields but they have a job to do and without them, those sorry bastards that never served and look down upon the military have there freedom..KEY WORD MY FRIENDS FREEDOM.freedom isnt free there is some soldier, marine, sailor, or airman that puts his life on the line everyday.....

AND TO GLP......lets say i came in the military after college, we wont get into my rank but for your comment on 7-11 I make close to 60,000 a year and drive a brand new lexus........if 7-11 is givin you that hire me..............

RANGERS LEAD THE WAY..

I plan on going in the Reserves after highschool. If this country ever went to war, I'd go. What pisses me off is people I know who are all talk and don't do shit. I know someone who says how cool the armed forces are and loves that kind of stuff. I asked him if hes going to join a branch or reserves. He says hell no and that if we ever went to war he'd flee to Canada or Mexico b/c he doesn't want to risk his life. Now thats sad.

I am sure there are some thing in the military you can make money doing but for a grunt out of high school you are not going to be making shit for awhile. Fuck I had a 30 year old marine recruter bragging about a 500$ a week pay check like he was a rich bastard.

I have known people who loved their service time with no complaints, those who have nothing but complaints about it today, those that complain but glad they served, those that are still in and love every minutes of it, and those that wish they never had even listened to the recruiters...I think the military would be challengeing yet fun, because I love weapons in all forms, but I wouldn't consider joining unless I was put in the position of having to join or flee the country and even then I would probably think for about a minute...

I have nothing but respect for everyone that puts on the uniforms, even those that ride a desk....They allow all of us to sit around and bitch about our freedoms without ever having made the personal sacrifices they do or have...I won't ever consider them an Army, Airforce, Navy, or Marines of just One, because to many have lost their lives for the rest of us...

Make damn sure you pick a job that is either limited to Big ship or ground units. If you pick a general job like Personel, computers ets then you can and will be suck on a boat instead of a ship. And that my friend will take you to the places to get gear but no gym to make any gains with.

The big ships and some jobs that are land based only. Ask about TAR. This TAR program will allow you to be in the navy but with a 10% chance of sea time.
If you want to grow muscle solid muscle ask some serious questions.......

TAR is the best way to be a SwaaBee..
