Question boys (and girls):

Why does all the branches of the military hate each other? Arent the objectives the same? kill the enemy and keep your country safe?

Is it because each branch is competing for governemnt dollars?

We don't hate each other it is like sibling rivalry. We all have the same parents and can't stand each other till you pick on a member of the family then we are one and will whoop your ass every time.

Speaking of which, can I whoop your ass? (just a little tap, I promise)

Kat,

Among servicemen there is great respect for each other.

Only the chiefs of staff are cpmpeting for government dollars.

Well then Matt, how come on more than one occasion war has broken out on elite between military people saying

"oh..the army rangers are much better than the marines"

or

"marines rule! NAvy drools"

or "Air Force sucks"

and other such childish nonsense...

I find it incredible that these people have the gall to judge each other when their only purpose to exist is to kill non-Americans.

kat, its just pride in the branch that you serve in, thats all.... i was a ground pounder in the Army....i have much respect for the other branches but i think the Army is the best, only because i was in it.... but i have friends and relatives in the Marines and the Air Farce(hehehe) and i know they work just as hard as anyone.... so its just a matter of who you served for.... much respect to all my brothers and sisters here and abroad serving!!!

Need to clarify something. Our sole purpose is not to kill non-Americans. Our sole purpose is to defend our country, constitution and the people of this country. Sometimes killing is a part of it.

Sibling rivalry is not war between the services. It is natural for one member to think his is better. IE the Marines are the best of course I think so I am a Marine, I have always wanted to be a Marine since I could first speak.

Each service has its own qualities.

For family life the Airforce

For lots of duty stations and moderate discipline the Army

For seeing the world, flying some cool planes and stuff the Navy

For the ultimate in self-discipline, skills at killing and ultimate sacrifice the Marine(also the worst for family life)

You see even when trying to compliment it still shows.

BTw, I resent y'all cutting up the airforce...my uncle was the first man to test pilot a CF18 and indeed TRAINED some of your american "top guns" who went to the Gulf War...he's been stationed all over the world and retired a light colonel (I havent the gaddamndest clue how to spell it)...

I'm not a huge military fan, but we are still proud of him nonetheless.

Was that the Canadian Airforce? Because the F-18 is a Marine and Navy plane. The US Airforce rejected it in favor of the F16. The F18 has been in US service for a long time before the Gulf War.

And we may rag on the other branches, but we stick together when it really counts.

I don't hate the Airforce, my father was an MP in the US Airforce 1959-1963 and as I have stated before some of my best friends were/are in the Airforce.

lighten up or I'll crack that whip on your ass.

I am a Marine and if i knew what i was gonna have to go through fo r the amount of money they pay, I would have joined the dang Airforce, they most definitly got it good. I dont think many sevice members really take all the cut-downs real seriously, becuase each branch can do certain things alot better than the other, and we cannot function without each other, bottom line. In my honest opinion i do think the Marines can do alot more with alot less.

All true, except I think the navy beats us out on the divorce rate. But you know if the Marine Corps had wanted us to have wive's they would have issued them.

Mr. H, We know how to kill a person 10 different ways with our hands after the first 6 weeks of boot camp.

We're all just kitty cats, really.

I went through Army Basic Training when I joined the National Guard, then I went on to enlist in the Marine Corp. Sothey sent me through their MArine Corp bootcamp. I was an E-3 in the Guard and could've kept my rank and not gone back through basic in any other branch of service. Not the Corp, they said it's an honor to join the corp, you're an E-1, and off I went to MCRD.

I've been on Navy ships and also around Navy Corpmen. I've also partied and have been kickedout of a few Air Force enlisted clubs in my a day, so here is my .02

Marine Corp - sucks for 4 years, but you will have memories that will last a lifetime. The only way to go if your in it for the short-term. Lots of pride, discipline, honor, history...

Army - want to be Marines, but they can't.

Navy - I've met a few cool seals. But there are too many gays in the Navy to be living in that close of quarters. I'm not homophobic, but I still don't want to live with one.

Air force - The way to go if you're making a career outof it. They get the best of everything.

And... I think everyone should have to go into the military for 2 years out of high school.

I'm probably wrong but I thought the Navy Seals training was more rigorous than that of the Corps?

Also, isn't the Air Force Special Tactics training pretty similar to taht of the Corps?

Again, don't attack me, I'm just trying to educate myself

Mr H, yes the Airforce Special operations unit, Para Rescue Swimmers, is a well trained and professional unit. Their primary mission is rescue of downed pilots therefore they are also trained in weapons and combat skills. Their combat skills are not equal to that of Seals or other elite units. They are paramedics highly trained in trauma treatment.
As for Seals training being harder than Marine boot camp, yes it is. Seal canadates go straight into training with no prior combat skills so they start from scratch.
Marine Force Recon canadates are only selected after several yrs of combat training. Then they go through a very long cycle of training including army airborne, mountain, navy scuba, demolitions, and many others. Only after a recon platoon is fully cycled are they assigned to a deployment with an expeditionary force.
