While I was watching a trial last week, I heard the female prosecuter say that she felt that the crime of rape was worse than murder. I have heard a few other people say this before, including my mother. I really did'nt grasp the logic behind that, maybe because I'm a male. I really believe that nothing can be worse than ending someone's life.    | ||

I think they say that because murder IS final...they suffer no more,whereas I beleive rape, the consequences, guilt, the AFTEREFFECTS if you will, last forever...that person is effectively emotionally paralysed forever.....would you rather die in a car accident, or live and be confined to a wheelchair? The end result of rape is an emotional wheelchair. I am not saying yes or no to the question, I am merely saying why they say what they do. | ||

kat has it down. For alot of people, male or female, living with any form of personal assualt/violation that robs you of part of your humanity is worse than death. ------------------ | ||

A very close friend of mine was raped about 5 years ago. She says she thanks god every day that she lived through it. She now has a wonderful husband and a beautiful baby girl. I guess alot of really bad things happen to us all but hopefully the good outweighs the bad. | ||

in response to kat, more women than not who have been raped have gone on and made basically a full recovery and continued to have normal, healthy sexual relationships. i have yet to find a murdered person get over death and continue on with their life. i can't imagine what it feels like to be a raped woman but it's not as serious a crime as murder. also guys get anally raped in jail all the time and do not come out emotionally paralyzed, of course sex is different for us than it is for women. ------------------ | ||

Going by the logic that rape is worse than murder, then if a person is raped they would commit suicide afterwards. I'm sure there have been many cases that this has happended, but far fewer than those who have'nt committed suicide. | ||

I never said it was worse, I was merely presenting the logic behind the arguemnt. I am personally undecided as I have never been either raped, or murdered....to me its which hell is preferable...I would prefer neither ever happen to me. | ||

All I know is that both are horrible, but...if my girl was raped atleast I would still have her and we could move on from there, rather than having her gone forever. But, I would kill the guy so I would probably get sent to prison anyway. ------------------ | ||

Which is worse? It's hard to "prove" which is worst due to the various after-effects of each one. For each case, several parties suffer - possibly for the rest of each of their lives. Rape- Usually only the person it happens to goes through living hell--Maybe a husband or family if she wants to let anyone else know Murder-Finalize a person life and destroys the peoples who where close to that person--alot more then just the person that was murdered will feel the pain of murder for those peoples entire life. Although both are horriable-I would say murder will effect more people. | ||

Without a doubt definitely murder. If you asked any parents of a victim if they would rather have their daughter raped or murdered I'm sure they would say raped. Even if the perpetrator asked the victim beforehand if they would like to be killed or raped I'm sure the victim would say raped, unless they wanted to die anyway. | ||

Most males cannot really empathise with females on this one as lot of them would probably LIKE to get raped by a woman. Maybe if a man imagined that it was some big ugly male that attacked them might help. rape is a sometimes brutal and unconsential sexual act which is most often regerded as a great pleasure between consenting parties. However, murder is never really fun for the victim is it. | ||

I think the guys on this board need to take a step back and imagine some guy attacking them, gaining complete control over them until, feeling completely helpless, and then doing with you as they wish regardless of what you wishes. I can an only imagine what a painful experience that must be -- a painful experience that you must live with the rest of your life. Yes, muder is bad -- your life is over. However, many rape victims wish there was over after becoming a victim of such a crime. Men have absolutely no clue what a woman goes through. ------------------ No matter how hard you work, there is always someone working harder. |
