If there was a war and u.s.a. called upon you to serve, would you go? If you had a choice which branch would you serve under?

I would go, I wouldn't be too excited but I would serve. I join the coast guard to be safe, just kidding; I would join the army.

as a marine who got out 2 years ago, of course i would go, withouth question. i feel that its not a matter of whether it is like vietnam or whatever, its the fact that the country needs you and you go, regardless of the odds or situation. i could easily go back into my old job and be even more effective with the experience i have gained working on the outside.

thats my $.02 on it.

then yea I would have no choice but to raise hell along side other Americans.
But if the War meant trying to help out some other nation cuz of some political agenda
then there is no way in hell I'd serve.

We have a bunch of pussies on this board. If you've ever experienced combat, it's an ugly thing, but one I'm willing and hopeful to go thru again.

Of course I would have to go for Marine Recon....oh, did I mention I allready am?

i would do my level best to cash in on the first war on a matter of principle. in times of want (e.g. the Depression, WWI & II) someone in the right place has cleaned up financially.

I would go in a heartbeat. My country and its past citizens paid for my freedom and I will do the same for those who come after me.

Difference is, I don't see it as throwing your life away. We are all going to die any way, so why not die for your country, something of substance and meaning. Not cowering in a country you ran to only to return and live off of other's blood.

It is all our business, no matter where in the world it is.

I would never serve this country, too many differences in my politics.

If I had been drafted when the Vietnam war was going on I would have killed the drill sargent the moment I was given a M-16. This is because he is the real enemy, people that want me to kill for their politics are the real enemy. Enough said.

You have to go beyond the politics. This country and her politics have given you your freedom and then some based on the politics and lack thereof.

Remember the military is not political it is the instrument that the politicians use. Like it or not.

Yes, a potato peeler in the Marines would be better than a General in the Airforce.

I hear you jae, and havoc. I actually always dreamed of being a soldier, even though I'm more suited to mental rather than physical jobs in general.

I planned to join the military for along time as a child, partially out of patriotism, partially out of desire to be a soldier.

Unfortunately, I have little to no patriotism left at all. If you look at how the government has treated it's soldiers in the past 2 wars, forget it. Vietnam was bullshit, and something happened to those poor Desert Storm vets, I'm guessing it was another government experiment, you wouldn't believe the shit the do to GIs.

Semper Fidelis to all the Marines who responded.

to all who dont agree with the "politics" or whatever....hit the tanning bed more...it'll cover the yellow streak down your back. there is no excuse for hiding behind a convenient half hearted belief.

ps...if you ever served, you would realize its a priviledge...not an obligation to protect your country. but hey, thats what freedom is about, enjoy it cause others will earn it.

ps...sorry, i get fired up on this subject.
