The job is great, but I can't stand a couple people I work with. One is just a jack off and the other is a lazy mother fucker. The lazy mother fucker is the bosses best friend. He gets away with murder. I'm thinking about leaving???

I can honestly say that I am very happy. Whether I am at home w/the kiddies doin' the mom-gig or shooting doin' the model-gig. On job requires A TON of mental effort, the other is a no-brainer.......one is sooooooo normal and the other is so bizaarre....I feel very balanced.

I started out as a programmer for a database company, and moved into field support with a lot of travel and saw the world.
Later I've moved into database administration.
My current gig adds server system administration to that also.
So right now I'm pretty pleased with my job.
The major downside of computer jobs is the hot technology is constantly changing
so you have to keep going to classes and learning new stuff
and since you're usually a beginner at any new technology
it's hard to move into contracting/consulting which pays the big bucks.

I can't complain either.

John - to me, the ever-changing technologies are the upside of IT. Imagine how boring it would be if it NEVER changed.

I love programming - so that is partially why I love my job. And they let me go out at 2 everyday and workout for an hour or so and then come back and keep on working - how cool is that?
the problem, and the reason I might tbe leaving in a month or two is that we were supposed to be doing all java stuff by now and we aren't - and we won't be until Aug.
I'm not too psyched about that b/c I haven't really developed any new skills at this job (other than WAP stuff - which is easy as hell) and I want more java exp.
and they pay me a lot too. but my manager is retarded. but our secretary is hot. but she has a boyfriend. but I have a girlfriend.

you see, there are trade offs at any job

Happy - It's real temping at first to think
"This place is crazy, I'm going to find another place that's better run"
Trouble is, every place is crazy, they all have their own form of craziness.
If you can stick it out till August, do so.
August isn't too long to get into Java.
Take a long view.

I like my job and actually like all the people I work with. I especially like my boss, although she took some getting used to. Lately it has been more stressful, but I think that's partly cuz I am ready to move on. So have been pushing for this new position to be created, and they are gonna do it, and I just wrote the job description with myself in mind. It should be mine if I want it. It is really what I want to do, and I won't have to manage 7 people anymore, and I may get to work at home most of the time! Pretty cool to sort of create a job for yourself! Plus my boss sends my on some decent trips to keep me happy.
