Bill Gates is an interesting contradiction between a man who thinks he is above the law (witness the anti-trust hearings), yet has contributed unfathomable sums of money to charity. The deal with his kids is that they will not receive any SUBSTANTIAL portion of his wealth. Parenting is - at the core - about setting your children up for success as adults (right B-Mom and other parents?). Leaving your children $50 billion each allows them only to go down from there....I suspect he will leave them a nice sum of money (maybe $25 million), so that they can have the opportunity to generate their own super wealth without the stigma of being "Bill Gates's $50 billion dollar kid". This would prove he is not only smart but wise. | ||

gates will probably leave his kids closer to 10 million. invested, that will give about 700,000 a year tax free income. the cheap bastard. i don't see why they have to find a cure for aids. schizophrenia affects more people (1 in 100), and costs more in lost wages & human suffering than aids. | ||

no im not. schizophrenia affects a large percentage of the population. I'm sure you call me a fucking idiot cause your friends have aids, and im calling you a fucking idiot because my friends have schizoprenia. 600,000 in america have aids. 2.8 million have schizophrenia. come to think of it, 2.2 million have hiv, which will become aids. so i guess there are as many on each side. considering how aids has only existed for 20 years, and there are already close to 3 million in america alone who have it, aids is a bigger deal. its mortality rate is higher (schizophrenics only die by suicide). you are right, and i am wrong. aids is more important than schizophrenia, as it is more communicatible. | ||

fuck that shit. if i was him, i would set my kids up for life. but thats me, and i am young. but with that money...25 million, is lots, for us common folks. but for him, it is peanuts. I would probably give them at least 100 million..fuck...when you die it dont matter, your gone. why not let your kids have some fun with there lives, and do what others cannot?? There whole life would be a vaction. How i wish i could do that. Whatever this just kinda pisses me off. My dad is the same way though, runs his own business and always tells me and my brother that i should try and start from scratch and see how i turn out..blah blah blah...in a way he has a point, but i'm his kid...they should get over there stuborness (sp) and quit thinking they are so good cuz they made it while others didnt. but thats just how my dad is, or seems that way somtimes. i am sure bill is excellent towards his kids, as my dad is fine to my and my bro. but when you die you die. why not leave it all for your kids??? thats what i plan on doing..anywayz, i know i will get flamed..hah. peace. ------------------ | ||

in a dateline (or 60 minute) interview i'm pretty sure gates said he was afraid that giving his kids billions would traumatize them. i'm pretty sure hes only leaving them 10 million or so. but still, wisely invested 10 million can give 800,000 a year. the stupid part is gates will probably force his kids to go to college. 1. make more money if you already have 10 million minimum, then you can do what you want with life. college would be a total waste, as both reasons are gone. but he'll probably still make his kids go. | ||

Stalin, Gates is a college dropout. I don't think he'll be pushing the virtues of college all that hard. Not leaving them billions is the right answer....if he did that, the only thing he would set them up for is failure....they wouldn't be able to feel as if they had acomplished anything. By leaving them 10 or 20 million, he is giving them the opportunity to have plenty of freedom but still live a life of tehir own. | ||
