ok, what if this happens...the QB tosses the ball to the RB (still behind the line), and the RB sees that he is screwed (defense about to tackle him for loss of 8), can the RB just throw the ball away, out of bounds? (since he is outside the tackles, it wouldn't be intentional grounding, would it?)

Dolphins shall win the whole thing this year

if it is not a forward pass the running back can do that. If the QB throws a forward pass even though it is behind the line of scrimmage you cannot throw the ball again. And if the RB is outside the pocket he can throw the ball away without intentional grounding being called.

just to add one thing, once the qb hands the ball off or does a backwards pass the rb can do whatever he wants... intentional grounding rules are thrown out when it comes to any other player (after and exchange), they only apply to the qb taking the snap.

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT MIAMI IS GONNA BEAT THE RAIDERS IN OAKLAND WITH THAT ABSOLUTELY PISS POOR OFFENSE THAT THEY HAVE! If Oakland stacks the line for Smith & forces the Phins to beat them through the air, it is over before it starts! The Phins were lucky to win today.

Ok...

1. If the QB tosses or hands the ball off laterally/behind himself to the RB, the RB can throw the ball forward...

There are a few reasons the RB doesn't do this.

1. If the play isn't a designed RB pass there will probably be linemen down the field. That is illegal.

2. The RB isn't a master of throwing the ball... away, out of bounds, otherwise.

3. The RB always has a chance to make something out of nothing. Run, Run, Run.

4. If the RB knows that they are screwed...there is probably too many mofo's around to throw the ball away clean.

Celt, good point about the lineman being down field.

Roidog, you're absolutely right about the dolphins. They got lucky as hell, especially when Vanderwhatshisname missed that fieldgoal. Indy has a pretty weak defense and Miami still didnt' score that many points against em. Oakland is favored by 9 so that tells you how much respect Miami is getting.... NONE!

It was because of turnovers. They had 3 turnovers as well as a missed field goal. They had a lot more total yards of offense then indy. Yes it was VERY lucky that vanderjact missed that field goal, i had it in my mind the game was over at that point. Thats twice Mora tried to get his kicker to kick a bomb to beat the dolphins and failed. Anyway, they arent just run, they have a better offense then people think.

Can't be that great if they let indy's weak defense get 3 INT's. I won't matter anyway, Baltimore looks legit after today. Holding Denver to 3 points with 4 minutes left is no easy task. They're reminding me of the 85 Bears.

The School for the blind can have 3 int's when the ball hits you in the chest. Except for that one good play by the lineman.

Regardless, it won't matter. Baltimore is the team to beat.

My buddies and I were talking about almost the exact same shit lastnight. If the rb was about to get clobbered, or needed to stop the clock because he knew the play was going nowhere, could he legally throw the ball out of bounds like an intentional fumble? Throwing the ball out a few yards laterally and not downfield at all.

ever hear of the titans??? i believe THEY are the team to beat, and baltimores o is piss poor... any team going a month without a touchdown has problems, they will be magnified next week.

The RBs don't do it 'cause it's not their position or place to risk an interception or fumble by trying to save a couple yards. Most coaches are very conservative by nature and will play field position until they are in a position to score. Hence they wouldn't give a RB explicit instruction to throw the ball if they were in jeopardy of a loss. There are rare occassions where a RB will improvise. Take Warrick Dunn against St. Louis on Monday night. He was about to be tackled for a huge loss, but tossed the ball to King who picked up the first down. That is the exception, not the rule.

Agreed. Not that The Titans O is gonna be mistaken for the 98 Vikings or anything.

Baltimore's defence is one of the few that can win a game on it's own. Lewis is a big part of that team though too. Ball control with that D is a tough combination. Should a team get up on them though I think it's see ya later. Funny think is that their coach is an offensive genius and he has this amazing defence. The Titans always look kinda iffy but that's their style. They can roll on a team if they need to but Eddie George is the man there. What a horse, since this is Elite Fitness it should also be said that he could pass for a pro BB too. Don't forget the Raiders though people, they will go far this year since their offence is very ballanced and their D is better than advertised people, look out for the Raiders.

True madbomber31, but you may have forgotten that was when tony banks was QB. Now don't get me wrong, Trent Dilfer is no John Elway, but I compare him to Jim McMahon (sp?) and Jamal Lewis is a legit badass. The Ravens D is possibly one of the best ever (if they win a superbowl).

yo, I seen it happen a million times, when the running back has a chance to make a big throw, he will take it because he shoots his load when given this opporotunity, very few would throw the ball away

remember, even the best Quarterbacks (not Donovan McNabb) take alot of maturation before they learn to throw the ball away instead of throwing to covered recievers, try to teach a running back this withone week of preparation for a trick play to be used during a game
