until Cancun spring break. Thats about 7 weeks. I'd like to add about 4-5 pounds of muscle while losing as much fat as possible (hopefully 5 pounds or more). I've mostly been cutting for the last month and a half, but I've still been adding lean mass on during this time. Basically my weight has stayed about the same. Now my plan for the next 7 weeks is tentatively this:

2 weeks bulk - until February 1
I've been on ECA for the last month or so and need some time off. Also this should speed up my metabolism since I will be eating more, and not running a calorie defecit like I have been for the last month. Makes sense? Workout 4-5 days a week, eat mostly anything.

4 weeks cut - until February 28
Get back on ECA, cut calories to 500 below maintenance (50, 35, 15), morning cardio 3 times a week for 20 mins, workout 5 days a week. Try and add a pound or two of lean muscle while losing a pound or two of fat. Reasonable goal over a one month period, right?

1.5 weeks CUT - until March 10
Still on ECA, cut calories to 1000 below maintenance, morning cardio 6 days a week for 20 mins (should I do it longer?), workout 5 days a week.

Please any advice/critiquing is welcome. I thought about doing the keto diet but I dont think I will try it now. Should I do more cardio? I really don't want to lose any lean mass at all. I know I won't gain much from bulking for only 2 weeks, but I think it will get my body back into normalcy (ive been running a calorie defecit for a while), so when I get back on ECA and start cutting again, it will have greater effect. Make sense? If anyone has some ideas, or a better plan than the one I've laid out, post it. Thanks guys.

Are you on lots of gear?? Or are you new to weight training, or perhaps just carrying a lot of bodyfat right now? Because otherwise it sounds a really tough goal to gain 5lbs muscle while losing 5lbs fat on the program you outlined.

Not on gear, just good genes and high natural testosterone I guess. I'm 22 btw. I've worked out for years but only got serious about it like last May. I always seem to be able to put on muscle while cutting fat, just less muscle than if I was bulking. I just haven't been bodybuilding long enough to know the answer to this question for myself.. Even if I get get the results I'm looking for, I want to get as close as possible to them. Everyone says you could lose 2 pounds of fat per week, so what if I bulked for 3 weeks and cut for 3 weeks? I would still come out more muscle and less bodyfat % than I am now. Either way, any opinions or better ideas than the guide I posted are welcome.

I'll bump this one because you sound like a guy that's got it all going for ya and a hard worker in the gym. I guess you know your body better than anyone, so this will probably work well for you. But for 'John Smith' without genetics/high test levels/total commitment it may not work very well. Good luck to you, and I hope you will keep us posted on the results (and we all love before or after pictures ).

Well, if you want to experiment, and I've heard nothing but good news about this (haven't tried it personally), why not try the German Body Comp program by Charles Poliquin. You're NOT supposed to do aerobics while on it, but he states that by following that program without altering your diet, you lose roughly .5% bodyfat per week. That's 2% a month, which is damn good, especially if you're already fairly lean. I've had two friends try it with very good results, but say not to use it for more than 6 weeks (thats the max). You can find it at T-mag, they do have some good articles.

2% a month.?
Wouldnt that be innacurate?

The fatter you are, the slower the percentage will decrease right?

Because there is so much of it!
Picture two apples
skinny apple one has 100% bf. take a *nibble* off it and thats 3% right there.

Now fat apple #2, has 100%bf, but take the same sized nibble you took off skinny apple #1, and 3% is NOT gone. Maybe .008%.

YOU FOLLOW?! WTF! SOUNDS LIKE A SCAM TO ME!

I don't know if it's a scam or not, but it is well recognized that the RATE of bodyfat loss declines as you get leaner. So you may be losing 2 lbs per week of pure BF in the beginning of you diet, but this rate will drop as you progress. So it is possible to lose 2% per month even if your weightloss slows down.

I was saying 2% a month based on me being 215 pounds. If I am 14% bodyweight that would be about 30 pounds of fat I'm carrying.

Lets say I lost 1.5 pounds of fat per week. That would be 6 pounds over a 1 month period. 6 pounds is 20% of the 30 pounds.

20% of 14 = about 2.85

So based on losing 1.5 pounds of fat per week I could lose almost 3% bodyfat in the month of February. Up that to 2 pounds per week and it can be even more drastic reduction.
