I have been reading about animalbolics and apprently the diets aim is to keep you in fat burning mode by reducing carbs throughout the day keeping insulin levels low. However the diet recommends fructose to prevent conversion of t3 to t4. SO some sample diets have said morning-eggs etc plus ORANGE JUICE? Then more fructose through the day. My point being how can you be in a low insulin fat burning stae if you are comsuming fructose throughout the day? I would understand if it was consumed at night before and after workout but for breakfast anf lunch? This seems to defeat the purpose of the diet.

I agree, doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. I once tried to suggest using fruit or oatmeal (low glycemic) or even a MRP instead of the fruit juice, due to the sugar content. Then I got flamed because that wasn't the way it was designed! I guess you have to be a member of the Varix Board to be smart enough to understand it.

It supposedly works because fructose is one of the strange 'sugars' that has a very low glycemic index (even lower than oatmeal or most fruits). Any knowledgeable diabetic can tell you this. However, because fructose preferentially seems to fill up liver glycogen stores before muscle glycogen, I don't know how this would keep you in fat burning mode, because it seems to me (in my limited knowledge) that your body would still prefer to use up liver glycogen before it goes into full-on fat burning mode.

Basically, fructose might keep your thyroid functioning at a higher level than if you had NO CARBS, and should also keep your insulin levels RELATIVELY low (for a carb), but is still treated by your body as a carb rather than a fat or protein.

I know that doesn't help you much, but as they say the 'proof is in the pudding'. If you try this diet and it works for you then throw the theoretical stuff out and get lean.

hey MS, where is there any good info on this diet.. the article on ironmag is a peice of shit...
it sounds like you guys are talking about things not really addressed on the limited article from Ironmag..

Sorry liquid, I have to admit I have not yet read the animalbolics diet. I'm speaking purely from a nutritional/biochemical point of view. Now that I know it's at ironmag I might go read the details since the diet seems to keep coming up.

Anyway, If it's an essentially ketogenic diet then I can see where the THEORY of using fructose comes in. To get and stay in ketosis you need low insulin levels. Fructose doesn't cause much of an insulin reaction. It also keeps the livers ATP supply full which helps with thyroid function, and excess fructose is easily converted to fat which is not a prob if you're in fat-burning mode. But as someone said in another post I wouldn't overdo it.
