I am currently doing my third CKD This year after having taken about a month off. My question is regarding fructose. I understand it is to be avoided during the carb up because it essentially makes it more difficult to get back into ketosis by loading up your liver with glucogon. How do you avoid it?

I have always been under the impression that the best meal after the end of the week depletion workout is liquid carbs. What liquid carb drinks don't contain any fructose? I can't seem to find any. Gatorade has plenty of it too. Also, should you pretty much avoid fruit juices while carbing up? Bottom line question, how do you avoid fructose?

Try to avoid foods/drinks that contain fructose. Fructose actually fills the liver with glycogen first before it does the muscles. Avoid foods and drinks that have this sugar within them. Also, a common myth is that fruit has a lot of fructose. This is partially true, but for the most part, most fruits have little fructose at all. But, I still avoid them anyway during the carb-up. My advice for you is to look for drinks like Ultra Fuel, Dextrose powder, or grape juice. Also, I think you may be confusing fructose with High-fructose corn syrup, are you? If so, here is the make-up of this sweetener/sugar. HFCS contain approximately 42% fructose and 50% glucose. Now, the 42% fructose is fractioned into second generation HFCS that contain either 55% or 90% fructose.

I'll try to add more to this, but for now, hopefully this helps.

Thanks for the response. So grape juice contains no fructose? I may have confused HFCS with fructose on a few drinks, Is Gatorade okay for the post workout drink? I hadn't even considered ultra fuel.

It just seems like fructose is in just about every damn thing I want to eat/drink while carbing up.
