N-Large is good and so is Sci-Tec's weight gainer, at least in my opinion.

It seems like a few years ago, the caloric content of the Weight Gainer shakes skyrocketed by all these companies filling their formulas with carbodydrates.
However, all of ythe literature about stimulating Growth Hormone that I've read state that carbs hinder the release of GH.
What's the truth?

I use Size Up by WSN after my workouts. If you want to take something between meals, though, use N-Large.

Unless you are an extreme ectomorph, and simply cannot gain fat no matter what you eat, I only suggest weight gainers post workout. I consider myself an ecto-mesomorph, probably leaning more toward ectomorph, and I wouldnt touch a weight gainer except post workout. I do know some guys, extreme hard-gainers, that might benefit from a couple of these shakes a day. If you need that amount of calories to gain size I recommend Myoplex Mass made with whole milk. Its as expensive as hell but doesnt contain so much damn sugar. If you buy a weight gainer look at the sugar content, if it says something like 160 grams of sugar you may as well buy a few pounds of sugar from the grocery store, mix some whey protein into it, take a vitamin and call it a day.

Good advice.
Only 23 grams of sugar in N-Large 2, though.
Also, to stimulate/maximize natural release of Growth Hormone, don't we want high calorie intake?

I've heard that simple carbs(sugars) hinder the release of GH, but complex carbs do not. I think it has something to do with the high amounts of insulin released when simple carbs are ingested. I'm not sure though.

Weapon X, are you sure N-Large2 only has 23 grams of sugar? I could have sworn I read 75 grams when I looked on the label at GNC.

It was probably 75 grams of total carbs, of which 23 grams was sugar.

just buy maltodextrin from a health food store and add it to whatever protein concotion you like

as for insulin, gh etc. don't worry your pretty little head off about it - if you need weight gainers (ie you can't gain weight no matter what, etc, etc...) just eat big and eat often - if you can't stomach it, use drinks like N-large or home made gainers (with maltodextrin) between meals, and consider adding probiotics and enzymes to your supplement regime in ordrer to boost your body's ability to absorb vast amounts of nutrients.

I apologize Weapon X. I got the nutrition labels from Cell Tech and N-Large 2 mixed up.

And this is to the person who was asking for suger free weight gainers. There is a weight gainer that is low in sugar (3 grams). I heard it's pretty good, but it's not as popular as N-Large 2. It's Labrada's Kwik Size.

vlaovic,
1.) What's the purpose of the maltodextrin?
2.) What are probiotics?
3.) What enzymes do you recommend, and in what dosages?

Sorry for all the questions...

don't be sorry

1. Maltodextrin is the source of carbs found in MRP's. It is pure glucose polymers.

2. Probiotics, like various acidophilus blends are supplements containing friendly bacteria living in your intestine - in effect, you swallow bacteria culture to feed the bugs living in your gut in order to better your digestion. You can eat 500g protein, but if your intestines are only able to deal with 150g, the rest is useless. Probiotics help you digest protein - the first time I took an acidophilus blend, after a normal high-protein meal, I immediately noticed a welcome lack of gas and bloating. In my opinion, probiotics should be on the top of anyone's shopping list if they are pushing calories and protein. They could be the link between how much protein your body can break down, digest and absorb, and how much protein your muscles need to grow.

3. oh shit, I forgot what your third question was...

...oh yeah, the enzymes!

I would go with an enzyme blend - Udo's Ultimate Enzyme Blend is probably best, but there is also an enzyme blend that's from a GNC brand that is quite good.
As for dosages just follow whatever the bottle sais. The best way to use enzymes may be to break open the capsule, toss the contents in with your protein shake/MRP/weight gainer, let it sit for a few minutes and then drink. If you've heard of pre-digested hydrolyzed whey, well this mimicks the pre-digestion part and will make it far easier for your body to take more protein in one sitting, and actually absorb it, since your powers of digestion will be further enhanced. In effect, by taking an enzyme blend, and an acidophilus blend, you will be attacking the issue of protein digestion and absrbtion on two fronts and your body will be able to effectively use more protein than without the supplements. Simple as that, and not to mention, you'll feel less bloated and gassy.

the wait gainer 2200Gold from GNC always worked well for me. But expect to lose all but 8-10lbs. once you start running. thats if you use it for 2 months. but you'll gain about 1-2lbs. a week when your on it.

Here's the best weight gainer shake.

2 cups whole milk
3 scoops whey protein (designer or whatever)
3-4 scoops of chocolate ice cream
Hersheys Chocolate Syrup
Blend into a thick shake

That's what I drink when I need to consume mass calories. Who cares about the fat and sugar. It's not a "Lean Mass Stimulator" but if you are using gear your body will just eat this up.

Go ahead - flame me - when I bulk I get huge
