June competition preparation..

Thandie

Elite Mentor
Platinum
Thandie entering the major leagues in Figure

Hi All,

I have a figure contest on June 7th and have been working aggressively for it. This is only my second comp, but I'm doing a few more this year so far.

Just a bit of information. I have been training for 20 years and to this day I love it. I look forward everyday to train because I know after I finnish I'm going to feel great.
I eat clean all of the time. I don't want to gain a ton of weight like most competitors do and then work harder at losing it. My diet, if you will gets tighter for a comp. For those that are starting out. Beginning training is not easy, but it gets easy as you go, in fact is very addictive. So, hang in there and you'll see your body trasform as you go along.

I am here to help others as well to learn from others, so if you have any question, please don't be shy.

Stats: Weight 110lbs
51 years old. (I'm giving out my age so the older women here don't feel they can't do it)
12% BF

Today I did 35 minutes cardio and abs.

Here are pictures taken today.

Wow!!!! You are definitely a source of great inspiration! Thanks so much for sharing your pictures as well as your age.

Your body is amazing and I wish you all the luck in the world.

I also am totally addicted to working out and am now seeing the results of it in my body which adds fuel to the fire in more ways than one.

Oh, and killer shoes!

I am really looking forward to your comp prep.

Have you got your one piece?

Is it from Jagware?

Colour?

(All the important stuff of course)

Thank you Bikinimom!
But I'll be 52 in August..

It is my pleasure to share and help others who are trying to make progress. I believe in sharing what you know. By sharing it will grow; if you keep it only to yourself, it will die. That's what we're here, in this challenging world for. :)

I love you Vixenshost!
Thank you!

Guardian, this way or type of workout is best for Figure comp. Then, once I compete I'll try to add some mass for the next show, therefore my workout with change.

i see. i used to do something sort of similar. i called it an 8 & 20 program. it would be 4 sets in a row (two supersets of opposing bodyparts). i would do a heavy compound movement for chest like bench press for a rep range of 8 and then supersetted with db flyes for a goal of 20 reps. then i would immediately do weighted wide grip chin ups for 8 supersetted with lat pulldowns for 20. i would rest a minute and then repeat.

i noticed the NPC is shifting toward less of the shredded look and more softer appearances in judging criteria.

That's more or less what I'm doing here.
Yes, the NPC is looking for a less shredded look. My nutritionist and I decided to go lean early, then we can change anything in the last couple of weeks. So far I'm on target, but if I look to cut by next week, which is peak week, we can fix it.

I love you rolling your cute lil eyes at the am and pm cardio . God, I feel your pain lady. I'd rather take a stick to the eye than do cardio, let alone twice a day!lol

Vixensghost, Ironically I feel the same way. I rather eat dirt then do cardio, but for comp one has to do it, period. I never had to do it in the past, but as I get older, is a bit different. That said, my cardio is not hardcore. I basically stroll on the ellyptical machine at my own pace without braking a swet. I'm exausted anyway...

I do AM cardio, then weights and cardio in the afternoon.
Sometimes is AM cardio & abs, afternoon weights, then cardio, which is what I'm doing this week.

Afer comp. cardio twice per week, weights 5x per week.

I think you look great but you need to tighten up your hamstrings and glutes. I would not do high reps for this. I would stick to the heavy 8-10 reps.

Leg Press with feet a little up higher on the base.

Deadlifts

Squats, ass to the ground on smith machine (this one you can go with higher reps to prevent knee issues, aim for 15 reps)

Lying leg curl, make sure this is slow and controlled, lift the knees off the pad at the end for a deep squeeze.

That would really improve your physique. Other than that I think you look great and well balanced :)

Thank you, Sessa for the feed back. I know I need to tighten up those areas. I'll give it a try. The lying leg curl looks challenging..

it is possible that there is some decent development there but since u wont be going down to that low of a level of bf% it may not be as visible. just a thought. :)

Lyine leg curls:...The lower bicep femoris muscles are hit with the leg curl routine! I think it's prolly one of the greatest lil diddies for building separtion needed to set your legs apart from "other's". :)

I'm sure I don't need to tell you two this, but, if anyone else is interested in the proper form--- I'll give it MY best shot at 'splainin. :)

This can be done on the standing leg curl machine if your gym does not have a lying position machine( I 'v seen few who have not, but just in case):

Lay face down on the machine, place your heels UNDER the leg pads or rollers.IF the machine you have selected has 2 rollers or pads, SELECT the upper set!If provided, grip the side of the bench, the bench legs, or handles. TIGHTEN the grip until you are SURE your hips will REMIAN in CONTACT with the surface of the machine during the exercise.

INHALE and use the muscles of the back of the leg to curl the pads in a semicircular path as FAR toward the butt as possible. Pause for one complete breathing cycle and direct your efforts to the full contraction of your leg muscles. EXHALE and slowly resist the weight until you return near the initial position. BEFORE you allow the weights to come to rest against the machine's stops, start the next rep.

This lil diddy hits mostly the leg biceps when the toes are pointed straight forward. You can move the focus to the outter or inner heads of the hamstring by simply pointing your tootsies( toes) inward or outward as you execute rep. IF you are having some trouble keeping your hips DOWN, OR you want more hammy action- RAISE the upper torso 6 to 12 inches ABOVE the level of the hips.

I've just helped or made someone scracth their head wondering what I just typed. It makes sense to me, but ,I often have a hard time 'splainin in print. :)

Also another thought is to rotate your pelvis a bit (creating a arch in your back) and squeeze the glutes this will make them higher. But remember to hold in the lower abs or you will look pregnant :)

Thank you all for you imput. I will go heavier as soon as I finish my contest and I'll try going as low as I can with the aquats (something I don't normally do, but know is best)However, as guardian said, it won't be that noticeable because my BF% will not go too low. I'm now provably 9% and thats as low as it will go because I do figure.
As far as rotating the pelvis :) I am trying to do that. I keep thinking "think stripper ". Well, I'll try harder..:worried:
You all had great suggestions and I'll try them.

Today 109.2lbs
AM cardio 35 minutes.

Did light legs, since I'll be doing legs again on Monday.

PM cardio NONE... :D :dance2:

Just wanted to say HI as I have been working long days and I have a firewall at work now for Elite.

You do look great, it is amazing and inspiring.

It's so funny, you should hear what most of the lads say about women in chat, they think once women are over 30 they are just not 'hawt' anymore.

You look better than most young ladies in their 20s

:)

Thanks Mydawgs, I'll let you know how I do..

Tatyana, thank you! :wavey:
I know, is funny, but must young girls take their youths for granted. They're always shocked when they see what I look like, but they don't want to do the work.

It's hard work, but I much rather do the work then look like what happens to the average person. And I love doing this. I feel much better then when I was younger.
In addition to my business, I have become a life coach. Helping women and men stay healthy, young, beautiful and current. Because people are always asking me 'how do I do it?' Is really not that difficult, you just have to want it.

Hope you have enough time to train hard..

Five days off contest time...

Today I'm 108.2lbs

I look ripped, but flat, which is fine 5 days off contest. Waiting for my nutritionist to carb me up.

AM cardio 35 minutes.

Did chest and triceps and a bit of abs. Feel fatigue as I'm aproacing the comp day.
Stressed, very stressed..

Hey, Needto,
I'm very excited. I bit tired from all the cardio, but excited..

Today 108lbs

AM cardio 35 minutes.

Did back and shoulders. I never work these two muscles together, but I'm going light with high reps. Besides my last workout day should be wednesday so I wanted to get it all in.

PM cardio 25 minutes.

Here are new pictures I took today 6-3. I'm a bit flat, but that's ok. I will still lose another LB or so, but then I'll carb up and fill out.

I do.

My lil trick: I blow my hair UPSIDE down. I use the flat iron to flip it backwards then "pick" it out with a comb. It helps if you use a ton of hair spray too. :)

Hi Gymdiva,
You look great! where are you competing?
I have a nutritionist who carbs me up the day of the show. Now my carbs are high and low and pro is 125g.
Today was a bad day. I had a meal at noon and couldn't eat again till 6pm and it wasn't pretty.

Haha thanks....first I need to get my computer fixed! I hate it when I get involved following somebody's thread and then they disappear, don't want to be that way.

Thandie, I am competing in the Central FL District Figure and BB championship this saturday and then the Tampa Bay Classic next saturday. Then its back to heavy and hard and MORE MUSCLE for next year yay!!!

Cool!
I'm competing this saturday 7th and June 28th; both in NYC.
Then I'll go back and add some muscles as well. Something is not easy for me, but will work hard for it.

Good luck! bring some pictures back from the show..

Oh yes, Vixens, I'm so freaking cranky I can't stand myself. However, one more day to go and I'll get to eat plenty sat..

Today 107.4lbs
Only did 35 minutes cardio and abs.
I am very hungry; I'm beginning to think about food I don't have anymore, such as bagels, popcorn, pizza. I'm hallucinating.. :RADAR

When I did my last show I tanned at the show and was not dark enough; infact I was too light. Will not make that mistake again.. :xeye:

I've always wanted to be the oil and tan girl at the male BB shows. I think I could find my true calling/niche in that job. lol

You feeling better with some carbs in your system, Tand? :) I bet so.

Hey were you out at the lakeland/plant city show ? I was at a contest to night to cheer on someone in the mens lightweights. Towards the opening of the show a womens figure 50+ came out and looked fucking awsome. Only one in her class if I remeber correct. Then I tought a few seconds later holy shit ? Maybe this is that lady from elite she said she was 51 and doing a show tonight.

If this was you MY GOD! YOU ARE A PIECE OF ART ! I was stunned at how great you looked I looked over at my friend and we both said at the same time holy shit she is over 50+ my god she looks fucking awsome, You are def 1# overall in my book.

Also someone said early in this thread the NPC was looking for a softer look. The show I was at tonight def showed that towards the end during the figure contest.
Two ladies were posing down for over all whitney ( my friend was there to cheer her on) vs another girl. Whitney was cut, and some what ripped in the back. She lost out the over all ( but still won her class ) to the girl that had a softer toned look.

the bodybuilding rounds the npc were still looking for shredded, but the figure was infact looking for " less muscle/ natural " look with shape and symetry

Many women looked great in that show. Some of the guys lacked dedication a few were right on and the mens heavy weight (only one guy in that division) looked like he ate a box of fried chicken and biscuts on the way to show soft and almost pudgy

Thank you all for all you support. That was really awesome!

Unfortunately I didn't placed. Since I'm not that familiar with the sport, I couldnt say exactly why. My body looked pretty good; in fact a lot of people at the show thought I was going to do well, including some of the winners. That said, I personally didn't think so, b/c. A- this is basically my first show being; I did one five years ago. B- I know going into an NPC show, these girls look awesome. C- I'm very small where most of these girls are much thicker. Nevertheless, I had a great time, met lots of people and I'm very happy with how my body looked. Maybe next time I'll do better, hmm..

I'm still trying to find which website the pic contest are.
I'll post pics when I find them. We were so many I still don't know who had the overall.

Chazk, I didn't do that show; I did the NPC in NYC.

Congratulations for just bloody doing a show!

I don't care what anyone says, that makes you a winner in my books.

I do know that the figure classes have a lot of competitors in them, and the competition is often really steep, so if it is one of your first comps, then it really isn't surprising you didn't place.
I have never done it, and it does depend on what your goals are, but you may want to ask the judges.

I never have as

- I think of BBing as a very personal sport and I am competing with myself really

- I am going to come in how I want to look and what my body will do naturally, I wouldn't change it because of what a judge said

For example, one told me women shouldn't compete in BBing about 55 kg or 121 lbs. I was that weight by age 15!!!

I really doubt I could get to that weight without looking like a stringy skeletor type physique.

If you want to win, get to nationals etc.

- get in touch with the judges, find out what they thought you have to improve on, you never know, if it was close, it could be odd things like tan or suit..............

- do another comp ASAP, you often need to get your name and face known, and you are in comp condition now.

- don't go too bonkers off the diet this week, keep the offseason diet in check

Thanks, Tat, I didn't asked for the same reasons you have. I can't change my body to what they want, and I really like the way I look. Most of these girls are 5'4" average and weight 120lbs average. I could never do that, no matter what I do. I have a very small frame. I'm 5'6" and came in at 107lbs. I might look graceful, elegant, (people say) but I can't pack those shoulders and back and especially legs.

I am doing another show June 28th, which is about 3 weeks. I won't cheat; I did last night by eating about 6 Medjool dates (couldn't wait to have some)
but today is back to contest dieting.
Next show I'll find out what I've been missing.

Why am I doing this? because I like the way I look when I work that hard. I could look above average without a contest, but taking it this far is awesome; especially at 52 when the avergage woman is giving up looking great.

Congratulations Thandie!! The fact that you are out there doing this, looking the way you do ESPECIALLY at this station of your life is absolutely amazing.

As long as competing brings you happiness and fulfillment - YOU ROCK ON!!! The experience can not be duplicated by any other you have in life.

:)

Thank you, Guardian and Bikinimon-

I love doing this, especially the journey there. The night of the show is so tyring and draining, but getting there is very fulfilling.

Here are some pics from the show..

I noticed your competitor number was the same as your age. :)

Thandie you look wonderful...I don't get this Figure thing....athletic and defined, you are the essence of this. Thicker does not equate to athletic. I will wait to see the comparison photos. But dang girl, you look to me to be the definition of the new criteria...hmmmmmmmmm. Doesn't matter because you are "all that" and then some in my book! Tatyana speaks with a lot of wisdom, look the way you want...and enjoy the ride.

You do compete with yourself..you set a goal and then achieve it. I always go into a competition feeling like I have won if I have accomplished everything I wanted to. I pick what I want to emulate from those that do better than me IMO. I try and correct errors I feel I have made. Before my break from competition I was a national competitor...but to what end? I am not going to do the things required to be successful at that level....if I can squeak out a 4rth or 5th at that level being all natural...I'm estatic with that.

So big CONGRATULATIONS you are friggin fantastic and an outstanding role model....just go with it and let it take you where you are willing to go and have a great time going there!!!!!!

PS I saw the comparisons....I'll say it again, I don't get it! You were outstanding....your legs were OFF THE WALL girl!!!! The husband I both agree you should have been in the top 5!!!!!!!!!!

Were you at Central FL in plant city???? That was where I competed! And yes the older women looked freakin awesome.....blew us spring chickens away!

You look great! There is something about the pics as well that I just think you look as cute as a button. :)

I especially like the side shot in the two piece and one piece.

If you copy the bottom Image code and paste them onto this page, the pictures will appear as pictures in the thread.

Mydawg- Thank you for that.. I do compete for myself; that's the main reason for doing these shows to keep myself in top shape. I am also very driven and athetic. I try everything that will keep me moving. In 97' I decided to do inline skating then started doing aggressive tricks on skate. I love sports and try to take it far. Right now I'm teaching my grandchild how to do tricks on skate. My grandkids think I'm the bomb...

I know Guurdian, when they handed me the # 52, I thought they were giving the age number..

Tatyana, thank you, love! I think you are awesome yourself. I saw your before pictures and you have done an incredible job. You certainly don't show any signs of being heavy or how you called it a chobette, I think.
You are an inspiration as well; with much dedication.

Tat, BTW, I am such a retard, I can't figure out how to copy the bottom image & pasting it? :p

Gymdiva, I was in NYC at the NPC show. Would love to do one in FL; those women work hard.

You are absolutely beautiful. I can't figure out all the differences in what they are looking for between figure/fitness/bb, etc. I love the way you look Thandie.

Is that why my daughter doesn't want to be out with me? :silly:

Thank you, Heatherrae!

nice work!! You look fantastic! Keep it up! And needto's right, you look waaaay younger than 52...probably half that!!

Here I am, back again to 2.5 weeks from competition. I never got off my diet for that reason. However, today I had to take a client out to lunch and I think I overate. Healthy food, but too much, meaning I went over my macros.

Ok, got it off my system. Back to cardio tomorrow

I can't not believe your 52!! I just called my friend in here to see the pics of you and she said she doesn't look like that at 22! Wow awesome job!!

Have two weeks before my next contest. I changed my workout routine and so far so good. This weekend, have a 3 day seminar from 9am to 10:30pm. A very long day so I'm concern that I'll run out of food before I get to bed. I'm only having about 1300 c per day so I have to be careful.

Have a good weekend everyone..

Unfortunately I've changed trainers a couple of times and the reason is that they talked more then worked and I was dealing with no shows, changing time after I got there. I'm driven and dedicated so that's hard for me to deal with. Now I have an online trainer who is kickink my ass. He workd for my nutritionist, so now I have the team. Because I'm not BB, it shouldn't be a problem..

A cut and paste from my post to mydawgs...
