I curl in the squat rack, it seems that most (on this board) make fun of that, but where should i curl then?

mind you, i curl heavy i am now working up to 135# for 7 and i like to use the 8' straight bar.

i know most gyms mine included have the "curling bars" like dumbells w/ the weights on already, but the bars are smaller in diameter and dont feel good to use

then theres the ez curl bar which i dont like to use for standing bb curls

so i curl at the squat rack or cage.

what should i do? stand over a bench and use the bar on the bench rack?
or just grab the bar and find an open spot on the floor in the corner to do my curling?

i like the cage i do most my lifts in there and i dont understand what the problem is.

I always like using a bench for doing curls. Or I would just find an open space where I could work.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I just set the bar on the ground and DL it up before every set. Curl where ever as long as ppl aren't waiting to squat.

put the fucking bar on the ground and pick it up like every other person does.
lol, yeah thats pretty much it. find yourself a nice space on the floor, laod your bar up and just go for it, i doubt anyone can curl a weight so heavy that they cant pick it up of the floor

^^ c'mon you can lift 135 off the floor?
sweating and groaning like a dying wildebeest, but yes lol. nah 135 is a lot to curl, but come on, if you can curl it you can lift it of the floor.

lol didnt mean to direct that at you, dont know how the "^^" got there

u put it better then me - if you can curl it, you should be able to lift if off the ground...

yeah you can bench off the ground too,so have at it
i dont "tie up" the cage if some one wanted to squat the so be it i can move, but if i have my choice ill curl there
would it be different to curl on the dl platform?
the gym i train at doesnt really have any unoccupied space
with so much equipment theres not that much floor space so finding an
"open spot" to "set up" isnt to much of an option, i guess i would be more out of the way in the middle of the isle right?
also the floors arent exactly level so having the rack makes it a whole lot easier on me and others as well id assume.

move your bar over to where the ez curl bar rests...thats what i do

my point is why?
why should i have to?
what if the fuck who wants to use the rack cant even 1/4 squat what im curling?
or he just doesnt know wtf hes doing overall?
what gives him more right to the "power cage" than me?
remember its not just a squat rack.

because you have other areas to curl at (ie where the ez curl bar rests)
squat rack is the only safe place to do a squat....

Well it's a "POWER CAGE" meant for doing squats and power movements. Curl is not a power movement and can be done anywhere. Set up a bench and curl there. And if someone can't squat 1/4 of 135lbs they probably aren't in the gym.

Or do you think you're just that much more important than everyone else that you can deprive them of equipment they need and you don't?

i dont even know at this point why im still debating this.
ive already stated that if someone needed the rack for its "intended" purpose by all means i would relocate w/out an additude.
i didnt mean to upset anyone(those of you who have bombed me) i just dont see what the problem is. scotsman, lets say your benching, and no-ones using the squat rack, you happen to look over and someones over there curling, tomorrow are you going post about them in the morons at the gym thread?

^^^ conflicts with your above statement

while you're relocating I just lost 5 minutes of my precious time. Hey bud its called a squat rack for a reason. When I curl I pick the shit off the floor. When I stand shoulder press I clean then press it and I also pick from the floor.

please come to my gym on my leg day and do curls in my rack

seriously though, most people wouldnt go up to someone and say, "hey are you done curling yet, cause i need to squat". Its proper gym etiquette and you can do curls almost ANYWHERE.

"lets say your benching, and no-ones using the squat rack, you happen to look over and someones over there curling, tomorrow are you going post about them in the morons at the gym thread?"

yes, i would tell the story about how dumbfounded they looked as I unloaded their bar and tossed it off the rack right infront of them.

If there is absolutely no one wanting to use the squat rack then I begrudgingly think it's ok. I just don't understand curling in the squat racks, I always used a bench or put the bar on the floor. Now if I do bar curls I use the preacher curl bench to hold the bar.

When I was a gym manager I didn't allow anyone to curl in the squat racks and would ask people to relocate if they were. The reason being is that 99% of the people who curl in the squat rack will not relocate if someone wants to squat. I had to wait like 15min the other day at my gym because some dickbrain was curling in the rack and the others were in use.

^^ really though. how do you know nobody else had the intention of using the squat rack while you were curling?

its a fine line cause the convenience is nice and no one uses the squat rack for its inteded purpose except for a couple guys and gals. I don't do it anymore cause i hate when peeps do it to me. I try to lead by example.

STOP CURLING IN THE FUCKING SQUAT RACK!

And watch the attitude bro. Don't be a punk ass little bitch. These members here in this thread deserve respect, not some sophomorish prick attitude.

And you know what? If i saw some guy curling it the squat rack, i WOULD go write about it in the jackases at the gym thread because it's about the last place I would think you would need to do curls. You look like an idiot doing that shit. Not that you have to look cool in the gym but doing curls in a squat rack? Weird.

Shit.
