Good job guys! Next time you post numbers i am sure they will be even higher. I dont care what anyone says powerlifting is a team sport.

After working out with Hannibal today...I just want to say that he is the coolest man alive. When I grow up I want to be just like him....

:lmao:

Boy, that'll teach me to leave myself logged in on someone else's PC.

When I grow up, huh? Shouldn't you be calling me "sir"?

Awesome numbers for all of the Asylum "crazies". My training is all over the place and I switch ALL exercises weekly. I kept a training journal until about a month ago but I gave it up so it wouldn't be a distraction while training. I like it better now but I may go back to a training journal in the future.

I respect those that aren't afraid to speak truthfully about there training abilities. Too often lifters get caught up in the ego thing. Insecurity is a powerful force that can break down even the most honest of men. Well, not to get negative; I just wanted to say I appreciate your honesty and commitment to helping other lifters. This goes for all of those lifters who regularly post their training. Thanks!

Good job everyone!

Spatts- amazing! I loved seeing my gf in the gym doing squats and deads with perfect form while the curl jockeys were using terrible form on their benches and curls. You just take that to the next level. Keep it up!

MORE NUMBERS:

Hey Spatts, did the Asylum crew use the blues or the greens for reverse band deads? Did you suspend the bands from the top of the power rack?

Those are great numbers for the Asylum crew. I think I may try some reverse bands with the greens on Wednesday. I have a strained oblique so I'll have to see how it feels. I'll let you know how it goes...

I hope you're right. I would expect a man that weighs more than me to out-perform me.

Just razzing you a bit...very impressive for all 4 of ya'all. Glad to see the crew putting up good numbers.

I'm only 5'9'', and I don't feel like the bands were tight enough. We should've used blue. There was VERY little band assistance there at all, even at the bottom, and I would say MOST of it was our own to lock-out.

Do you know how much weight it took to touch the floor?

When I used the greens from the highest I ould set my pins, it took 95 lbs for a plate to be touching the ground. I hit 475 this way.

When I set it up lower and used the greens and lights, it took 135 to touch the ground, but had no assistance the last 4" or so. I hit 455 like this and got 495 just above the knees and stalled.

I think I lke the second way better because it hits the lockout harder.

Does your setup have any tension taken off at the top?? I did them from the top of the rack the first 2 times, but have since done them from the pins of the power rack(set to my height 5'7") and this makes it so the bands don't help the last 4" or so. Nails the lockout!!

Although I guess that happens with Hannibal anyway since he is much taller.

Yep the set up was so that it let off at the top...so that it was entirely our lockout. The greens dont help that much...but it does change the dynamic of the lift. And you are right...I got less help than the others because of my height. The blues obviously help more. We are going to do the greens next week. Then the next time we get around to Rev Band Dlift we will use Blues....set different records with the different bands.

This is how we set it up. Put the pin through the rack at about 5'6"...and choked the green band. The bands are old so it probably took a little less than 135 to touch the floor....but the bands let go completely for the lockout.

I see.

Yea, your setup probably had much less resistance because I was using the green and purple bands for that setup. The blues should be fun. Let us know how that goes.....whenever you get around to em.

To whoever had a problem with what Spatts posted...you obviously missed the point. First you would have to know the two of them on a personal level. As a team we have to find what it takes to motivate one another. For Spatts...it is internal. For Project he likes to be challenged by her. If her sayin that is what it takes to motivate him...then she, as his teammate, will do it to make the team stronger.

And dont think that just because she said that he should be stronger than her...that she is limiting herself. If you knew her...you would know that she doesnt believe in limits. We could all learn a little something from that.

Well considering that you had never deadlifted before....and you have back issues...your recent improvement in the deadlift is amazing.

And as for the rear view mirror...I never use it. The only time I look back is to help you guys out. If I keep lookin back instead of lookin ahead...you guys will start to gain on me.

nice! how much do you have the bands take off at top and bottom?

Not entirely sure...they were done with the green (medium) bands...looped at the top. As you get towards the top they dont help much at all.

Great job on all of the PR's! Keep pushing each other and before you know it, you will have one of the strongest gyms in the city. 4-boards should be good for all of you next week as it won't be a full range movement. It's good to mix it up like that. Good luck on more PR's.

Re: The Numbers

Well today was ME Bench Day. We decided to do 4 Board Press...and follow it with 2 Board Reverse Band Close Grip Press...courtesy of the Okie Crew. We had never done the reverse board press before...we didn't use shirts, but I definitely liked them.

Hannibal:
Previous 4 Board: 353
Today....................375 (missed 396)
Reverse 2 Board CG....375

Project:
No Previous 4 Board
Today..........................254
Reverse 2 Board CG....276

Spatterson:
Previous 4 Board: 199
Today....................210 (shoulder issues that we are addressing...was good for 221 or more..but couldn't get set on the bench...we need a new bench)
2 Board CG ...........177 (didn't use the bands to avoid lateral instability)

We all broke and set records...but several things that need to be addressed. We need a new bench...the one I have has a split in it so it can incline and decline...and it throws people off. It's also a bit high. So if we get a decent bench life will be easier.

Spatterson's rotators are recovering fairly rapidly. It is a frustrating process for her...since she has the strength. She has been able to increase the resistance on her AR work for her rotators (with the help of her son). A few more weeks and we can start actually "strengthening the joint" instead of just rehabbing it.

Myself...my triceps are still weak. What else is new. When I got towards my final attempts...as soon as the weight hit the boards my elbows flared and I used my shoulders. I got PR's..but still need to address the tricep issue. Funny thing is that I do NO direct shoulder work other than seated power cleans....and I do a tremendous amount of tricep work...you would think they would catch up sooner or later. Still searching for that "magic bullet" of an exercise.

NICE WORK EVERYONE!!

Oh no man, I did my bicep work after all that stuff.

Hannibal just won't let me write that stuff down on the board.

Great work fellas...and ladies ;).

Once we are back into the swing of the things with Westside after my meet, I will start posting numbers from my gym. We currently only have two regulars, but we get occasional guests. Just need to name the damn gym.

How about the "Green Mile", "The Cellblock" or "The Slammer". The gyms slogan could be, "DEADman Walking!" Do I win a life-time free membership? :D :D :D

JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS.....

Damn today sucked...or at least for me. We were scheduled to do chain suspended arch back gm's. And since I have been setting PR's in all my other lifts...and my back is starting to feel strong I thought today would be a walk in a park...well I got a reality check...more like a slap in the face. One of those days were everything felt heavy.

Chain Suspended Arch Back GM "Triple" (No belt)

Hannibal:
Previous Record: 375
Today................. 353 (STRUGGLE!!!)...then missed 396

Spatterson
Previous Record: 221
Today..................221

Project
Previous Record: 265
Today................. 287 (missed 265 the first time then came back and got it...then got 287 on top of that)

I can't speak for Spatts...but I just felt "drained" for some reason. Didn't feel like my legs were under me. I thought today was going to be easy...no excuses I got my ass kicked. Next week will be different!!!!

Gotta take the good with the bad...all part of the learning and strengthening process.

CONGRATS PROJECT

Just one of those days! Don't let it get you down. The failures we go through in life, just make the victories that much, more sweet in the end.

I know it's all part of the game. Gotta pay your dues. But I really thought today would be a PR day...until I got under the bar the first time...then I knew something was off. When 353 almost broke me I was pissed. Once I got it off the chains...I knew I could get the triple. When I got under 396 I knew that all I had to do was get it moving, and I would triple it. But it was GLUED...didn't budge it. Legs just weren't under me. Next week I am getting 396 and then some more.

You'll get back to 441 before you know it, and blow that number away.

Thanks brotha...not that I check my rear view...but I like to keep at least a hundred pounds between us. You are starting to invade "my space"...I gotta tighten up.

Good lifting today

Maybe when I come up we could make a weekend of it. Squat P.R.'s on Saturday and Bench P.R.'s on Sunday. I know you will get it next week. And I know we will all P.R. when we get together. I never fail to P.R. with an audience. I think I would pass out under an attempt before I would dissapoint any member of the Asylum.

I know for a fact I am stronger when the other members of the Okie crew are present. Get that weight next week and let us know how it goes.

B.

Max Effort Bench Day. Felt relatively well for once. I have been hitting the tricep work like CRAZY and it definitely is payin off.

Today was 3 Board Press

Hannibal:
Previous Record: 331
Today..................353 (tried 375 and missed...should have tried 364 first)

Spatterson:
Previous Record: 199
Today..................199 (FUCKING SHOULDER:mad: )

Project:
Previous Record:221
Today.................243

353 felt very light...should have gone for 364. But I jumped to 375 and then was SPENT. Been doing Single Arm Band Pushdowns every night. And I could definitely tell a difference. If you aren't doing them....you should give them a try.

Great job on the PR's. When the Asylum crew does board work, do you pause on the board for a count of 1,001 or do you just drop & pop?

I used to always pause on the board for a count, but I watched the Westside videos and they drop & pop. I drop & pop now. Just curious.

Well today wasn't a ME day...it was Speed Squats. But after we finished our sets...we did speed deadlifts. I had the other guys use 221 for their sets...and I used 309. After I finished my sets...the others were "chomping at the bit" to try it. All three of them pulled it. Congrats to all three.

We are testing all three lifts on June 29th...we will see where we are when we are fresh.

Good work today Spatts and Project.

Previous Record: 221
Today..................221 (Shoulder Popped and had to call it a day)

Project: GOOD JOB!!
Previous Record: 287
Today................. 309 (got a double..couldn't get that third rep)

Kind of a "blah" day for me. Which I seem to have had alot of them lately. Need to get my weight up and start breaking some records. December will be here before I know it.

Spatts shoulder is a work in progress...and a frustrating one at that. But it is getting stronger every workout...we just have to work around it right now. Sometimes I want to choke the living shit out of her previous trainer...for letting it get that fucked up. I know where he lives. But we will continue to work on it...and soon it will be stronger than ever.

Project.....is all heart. Kicked ass today as always. Nice work partner.

Gotta put it in the past and set our minds to Wednesday...ME Bench.

Great job by all! Hannibal did you use the little "rock" in the chains to get some momentum?

Don't know how I forgot to post Wed ME Bench workout from last week. We did 2 Board Presses...and no one had any previous records. So PR's all around....

2 Board Press

Hannibal: 331
Project : 221 (tried 243 and was a no go)
Spatts: 177 (shoulder popped on 199)

Dog days of summer...

Well today was kind of a rough day for the Asylum crew. It was about 2 million degrees in the gym. I was drenched in sweat before I even got under the bar.

Chain Suspended Bent Over GM's (Triple no belt)

Hannibal
Previous Record: 353
Today..................375

Project
Previous Record: 243
Today..................221(Had to call it quits after that one)

Spatts
177

So overall it was a rough day. For me personally my previous record was 353. And when I was warming up I didnt ever know if I was gonna get that again. Worked up to 353 and could only double it. Project asked me if I wanted it again..and I said "yeah but put some more weight on it". He just looked at me...had to tell him I was serious. 375 now on the bar...and I am dying because of the heat...and with my allergies I feel DRAINED. Got a deep breath and some how managed to get the first rep...the second was even uglier and for a brief second I wondered if the third was coming up. Hit the bottom of the chains and gave it everything I had in the tank...and it started to move. I still have NO IDEA, other than out of spite, how I got that shit up as bad as I felt. So a 22lb record on a bad day. Ugly but I will take it.

Project ate way too much food...way too close to training time. He was hurting. As the weight got heavier we got even closer to seeing he preworkout meal again. He probably was good for a PR...but had to call it off.

Next week they both will set PR's.

Sounds like some great training over there in KC. I noticed with that extreme heat its much harder to train but it happens..pulling a sled outside in Forida during the day is brutal with the heat and everything. Sounds like the strong getting stronger at the Asylum. Say, do you guys ever train biceps?haha

Another Superman logo "The Project" thats cool to have another one on the board. Your last avatar of yourself you look like WWE wrestler Diamond Dallas Page. Congrats om beating that 3board PR by over 20 pounds.

But on the other side, I've seen him do calf, quad AND bicep work all in ONE month!

YES! Keep bombing those biceps! I did 35 sets of biceps this week down from the 50+ sets a week I used to do (seriously). Chicks love seeing and feeling peaked biceps too!

Remember that every time you train biceps and curl-you are also building critical forearm strength and size too!

Grip strength and cool peaks-Biceps Rule!!! :fro:

But on the other side, I've seen him do calf, quad AND bicep work all in ONE month!

Hannibal, I have finally figured you out.

You are a closet Bodybuilder.

That's ok, you are young, you can learn. And at BB anonymous, we have many recovering bodybuilders who have seen light, and heard the call of the big iron.

Simple steps to follow:
1. Admit you're a bodybuilder.
2. Throw out posing oil.
3. Break all the mirrors.
4. Return the 55 gallon drum of Nair.
5. Give all the g-strings back to the strippers you stole them from.
6. Never, ever do another curl.
7. It is not 'achieving a weightless, maximal, isometric contraction', it is posing. Admit it, then stop it.
8. Stop trying to enhance your quad sweep.
9. Throw out the muscle mags.
10. Stop wasting time on the NPC and IFBB websites. Internet addiction is still an addiction.
11. Stop worrying about your vascularity.
12. And finally, go enter a meet.

Remember Hannibal, here at BBA, we are here for you.

<group hug>

DAMN...how did this go from a thread about our gym...to an Internet Lynching. Arioch...calling me a BB...you know where to hit a man where it hurts.

I was tryin to come up with a witty reply...but I have been humbled by your "Smack Down" ability. I am going to go lick my wounds...but I'll be back one day...you haven't heard the last of me.

Quad Sweep? HAHAHA...what quads? You mean the backside of my hamstrings?

:fro:

Backside of my hamstrings, best one yet!!!!

I train my biceps like a bastard, but I tell people I don't because if they think I don't train them at all they don't think I am too much of a whimp. If they had any idea I trained them as hard as I do and they are still tiny I would lose whatever small "rep" I have managed to acquire.

You guys quit picking on poor Hannibal.

Spatterson: I'll have a brazillian wax

Spa person : Okay, come right this way...

Screwball : i wanna get my ass waxed , i wanna get my ass waxed!

Spa person :excuse me??

Screwball: I want one of them african wax things , iwanna be smooth for all the ladies, and all of bench monsters mental images

Spa Person : you mean a brazillian wax?

Screwball : Yeah thats it

::Screwball and spatterson are in their own rooms, getting ready for their treatment::

::Both treatments finish and they both walk out::

Spatterson: so how'd it go?

Screwball : Good, didnt hurt a bit, barely even felt it.

Remember that horrible scene from Duece Bigalow, Male Gigalo? Now think of an insanely huge and muscled 300 lbs country boy getting the same treatment, and you have Screwball. . . I will wake up screaming at 3:A.M. for sure now.

I got another image, thank god it is replacing the Screwball image. Only problem is, I shattered the budweiser bottle in my fist as I read that. (Cleaning glass out of the carpet, trying to explain to Mrs. Benchmonster why he had such a violent overall body contraction)

Spatterson, you have to quit saying things like that. It is very hard to think of you as a strength athlete and possible training partner. I think I may have had a minor heart attack when I read that.

B.

Do you really think that the waxing will cause me to cry? I thought it would all be so easy...

I might have to witness Spatts getting her waxing so that I can get a better feel for the whole process. If you know what I mean. I need to feel comfortable before I comitt to someone manipulating my buttocks. :D

I am told, and this is all second hand mind you, that being comfortable with the process and just relaxing with it, is the key to it being a pleasureable vs. painful experience. But why don't you go first and let me know how it turns out.

Are you sure you are talking about having something removed from your ass?

After working out with Hannibal today...I just want to say that he is the coolest man alive. When I grow up I want to be just like him....

:lmao:

Boy, that'll teach me to leave myself logged in on someone else's PC.

When I grow up, huh? Shouldn't you be calling me "sir"?

It's deja vu all over again, mister.

Tag, you're it.

Indeed. I can't believe he's posting that crap instead of our numbers.

I hit 2 PR's too, and where are they?

:FRlol:

Well since you all asked so nicely...considering I haven't been online in a week....

ME 2 Board Press:

Hannibal: using a shirt
No Previous Record:
Wednesday: 397 (419 stalled just off the boards...Project touched it and it JUMPED up to lockout)

Project
Previous Record: 221
Wednesday:........243

Spatts
Previous Record: 177
Wednesday:........188 (and tripled 177)

It was definitely a good week for all. I am still learning this whole "shirt" thing. Last week 397 PLANTED me off of 3 boards. This week 397 Exploded off of 2 Boards....and I only needed Project to bump the bar and 419 jumped up. So some of it is technique...it is a learning process. I just need to start gaining weight...and get some TRICEPS.

Project and Spatts both broke records on both days. It's great to see the gym get stronger. Nothing like a team...and I would be nothing without them. Thanks guys...

Great work to you all. PR's are a good thing. Getting this thread back onto training is also a good thing.

Those shirt/board presses are a monster for working the lockout. Good job. I find the 2 board much tougher than the 3 board, so getting a 2 board weight that planted you on a 3 board is huge.

Get ready for the weekend of the 27th. I am bringing some plates. Looking to go over 600!!! GRRRRRRR!!!! One week away from my meet. I feel like smoking a tree and bench pressing my suburban!!!!!!!
