Drug Use In Sports

ExtraMile

High End Bro

was wondering what you guys thought of this;

in sports studies class today at school a topic came up about rules in sports and stuff. And how drugs are used in some sports more than others (which I agree with)

This went onto drug use in sports and the teacher in the class said something like

"anyone know the average ban time if an athlete is caught using drugs in the olympics?"

I think he said it was like 5-8 years. Then he asked

"anyone know the average ban time if a bodybuilder is caught to be using drugs? 3 months."

Anyone know if this is true? I was pretty sure the olympia wasnt even drug tested... And neither is the Worlds Strongest Man competition...

Then there was a thing were he drew like a target board on the whiteboard and he said what sports do you think would go in the middle, and be considered to be closest to all the characteristics a sport should have.

There had been a big long list of stuff that everyone said makes a sport a sport, things like competition, rules etc

Ended up rugby, soccer, swimming right in the middle, darts and snooker and pool on the very outside and then he said this

"I would even put bodybuilding on there, due to the amount of drug use in the sport I wouldnt even say it passes on the rules part"

lol I was under the impression most top athletes use some sort of drugs... It was just organisations like The Olympic Games work so hard to keep the drug image away from them that everyday people dont even suspect the reason Usain Bolt is so much better than all the other sprinters is to do with drugs lol.

in Europe they do it at a young age. in the US the rich kids do it at a young age, and guys like me wait till later. I never juiced in high school sports.. guys around me never did either. however when i went to state the richer private schools it was obvious they were juicin it up.

so i would say the wealthier areas in the US the young athletes are juicing, the poor areas the guys just dont have the money to mess with it. we actually had to work our ass off just to buy our fords and hyundai's flippin burgers, you think we had money for steroids? heh

once u get into college and you are fighting for a job playing then the use goes way way way way way up. and then in the pros i would say its probably 99% depending on the particular sport. I believe in the NBA most players are on HGH. in the NFL they dont even test for HGH ... yet.

George put out an interesting article about lebron on HGH. you should check it out.

xZachx xLundx an american skeleton slider (1 man bobsled) got nailed for finasteride and got turfed out of the 06 winter olympics. He was escorted out prior to opening ceremonies. He was competing a year later. He went to the '10 games. Any one that believes the olympice (winter or summer) are drug free is living in fantasy land.

Reminds me of Marion Jones and her steroid fiasco.

It's utterly hilarious how fucked up the olympics drug testing policy is.

This last olympics all you needed was one "glance" to know the lead female sprinter for Usain Bolt's team was heavily doping with her female pro bodybuilder level of upper body development and man'ish looks.

Society and sports needs to pull it's head out of it's ass especially because people actually are a big part of the reason that athlete's use steroids.

People want to see bigger, faster athletes. They want to see records broken. Home runs hit. Players want more money and the better they perform the more money they potentially can make. It's a vicious cycle. Not to mention the athlete's own drive to be better athlete as the reason for injecting.

Top it all off with media scare tactics and blatantly false info. It's extremely rare anyone dies as a direct result of steroid use.

If you use 100mg a day of dbol for months on end then you're a fuckin dumbass and no wonder your liver took a dump.

Pro bodybuilder's use for years on end. Even the one's that come off after a show likely use very high doses of drugs and yet every once in a great while when a bodybuilder dies they cannot directly pin point steroids as the cause because it's usually the result of more dangerous drugs like diuretics, nsaids(over doing these is a good way to fry your liver/kidney's) insulin, or addictive hard drugs like coke etc.

It's pathetic. More people die each year from alcohol use/abuse then all steroid users, pot smokers, hard drug users combined. Yet it's perfectly legal.

The 2 big money makers alcohol and tobacco should be fucking banned by comparison. These drugs may not have as much potential for immediate harm(though you can drink yourself to death in 1 shot), but the long term effects they have are terrible. Let's not forget inebriated people can be alot more violent than when sober. This is an absolute fact. Alcohol impairs thought and reason.

Yet steroids are EVIL, DUH DUH DUHHH, ewwwww, ahhhhh, scaaaary.

whats up man. I was talking about steroids in the pro sports level, not in highschool and college and stuff.

yes bro I agree that its stupid how alcohol and tobacco and even weed/marijuana are so much more socially accepted than steroids.

I hate how bodybuilders have such a bad rap for using drugs and people think fags like usain bolt are perfectly natural.

I actually might try and get some info on drug testing in the olympics so I can take it into class and show how its not as innocent as it is made out to be, I doubt many people would believe me though the media does such a good job of making sure popular sports stay popular.

I dont disagree with drugs in sport though I wasnt saying that.

victor martinez was caught distributing etc and sentenced to 4-6 years eventually reduced to 90 days - of which he served 60

Main thing I wanna know is am I right to think most of the top athletes use drugs?

I live in a town saturated with elite athletes. Short answer is every sport has a significant ammount of drug use. And people that think that USADA/WADA keeps drugs out of sport are just plain naive

YES. as i said above. in poorer high school level they do not very much. richer high school athletes DO. then once you get to college level it increases significantly.. and the pro's its 99%

they are smart about it. they make sure they use short esthers and are prepared for drug testing.
