Do you guys think that money paid to go to cosmetology school is considered a qualified education expense? I'm doing my stepsister's taxes....

Eligible educational institution. An eligible educational institution is any college, university, vocational school, or other postsecondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. It includes virtually all accredited public, nonprofit, and proprietary (privately owned profit-making) postsecondary institutions. The educational institution should be able to tell you if it is an eligible educational institution.

based on that explanation I would say yes? vocational school? I think so. thanks

Please DO NOT use the "T" word on a peaceful Sunday morning, only 18 days from the wretched April 15th...

Seriously, I can't see any reason why you can't write that off. Clearly, cosmetology is a vocation. I'm not a CPA, so please don't just take mine (or anyone's) word alone here. If it were a kickboxing class, then probably not. There are a lot of other complicated "gotcha's", so this is definitely a question for a professional, if it were my (T-word)s being prepared.

if this ^^^ then yes. . .

oh and, i'm a cpa/cva with a masters degree in taxation :nerd:

I would say yes. It's 2,000 dollars back for everyone that qualifies. I know I'm working on my masters

You autmatically get 2,000 back just for your loans.

The question you have to asswer is that...yes it is a post secondary vocational school. BUt the important part is....is it eligible for loans? if it is then it qulifies if not then no....hope it helps.

dunno what laws are in america

but in australia you can claim that as expense

im currently coming close to finsihing my accounting and economics degree :), just accepted into aus CPA house aswell,

though have to say, CPA doesnt mean much, honestly, id say its just something that looks good on a resume and gives accountants a reason to charge people more lol

not saying its bad thing, after all i wouldnt be trying to become a CPA if it was useless
