Your gym have a...??

My gym has nothing, just weights and a few threadmills. And because of that, it has no girls whatsoever.

I've been looking into a health spa for my second gym. It has a pool, basketball court, track and some classes all included in the membership.

It has boxing, spinning and massages as well for an extra fee. And of course there are girls there ALL the time. Its only $150 more then my other gym but I will keep both if I join this health spa. This place is just too cramped to do "real" lifting.

Anyway I was just wondering what everyone else has at their gyms.

Real lifting? This could be done with a squat rack, barbells, and some dumbbells. I would much rather lift in a small, hole in the wall gym then those shitty health spas anyday.

A ton of machines...

DB's that go up to 120...

About 6 working pieces of cardio...

2 tanning beds...

An area for aerobic (and only 5 ppl are in the class each night)...

Lots of supplements, drinks, etc...

Bitchy ass owners...

The gym I go to has one side of free wieghts and a side full of Nautilus. About 20 different treadmills, skiers, and bikes. An aerobics room also. I don't like it anymore because they have pushed most of the hardcore people out. A Gold's without juiceheads? They want the 40+ crowd that pays for 2 years and only goes 2 months. 49 a month.

Got a membership at YMCA to. Only go to swim in summer, very few free wieghts, quite a few women, most with children in tow. Basketball, skatepark, raquetball, tennis, indoor pool, just about everything, but free wieghts.

If I stay here after I graduate going to join Powerhouse. All the juicers have moved to there. I like to lift around big mofo's because they give me inspiration. Plus they are serious and lift, not make it a social scene

all i insist upon is benches, dumbells, barbells, squat rack, seated cable row machine, leg press, dip bars and overhead pulley

what would u do at this new gym? hook up :D

True Danielson. Man there used to be a gym here called Troy's. The only type of cardio machine they had was one of those bicycles with a fan on the front of it. I think they just had it because the AC sucked.

my gym has everything, a bally total fitness mind you. free weights, hammer strength machines, track, cardio room, pool, steam room, spin room, aerobics class, blah blah blah... its all right, but I would like to try out the hole in the wall gym for a change

lol they have one at my uni gym....rusted up as fuck of course ;)

i have been working out in this "hole in the wall" gym for 3 years

it gets alittle boring and i need a change of scenary. i knew i'd get a bit of shit for that "real" lifting comment.

its hard to do squats when all the machines are right next to each other, i like my space. i just like more space if i am going to do shoulders, legs and chest

i like watching form with shoulders and i don't feel like lugging the dbs all the way on the otherside where there are mirrors...

i just want some options if i am to go out and lift

fair enough

its just when you go to these health spa gyms im not sure how much real lifting you can accomplish (i have no idea, will they even have all the basic free weights and if so who uses them, guys who just wanna posture or actual serious lifters)

and the extra $150 is a lot of money unless u can afford it. if so go for it :D lots of nubile hunny bunnies is never a bad thing

my gym just gt a batch of teenagers....urrgh! i hope the spa doesnt have lots as well

I can understand your pain, even if I am at a better gym, it is always populated with just numskulls. I like to workout late at nite, so I have more breathing room and I know someone that is serious about their lifting will give me a proper spot if needed

We have it all....new weights...new equipment...

Only thing that sucks is the mens locker room smells like a junior high locker room.

I worked at 2 great gyms...had everything a person could want...
and the gym was rarely crowed...goodtimes...

I work out at gold's, and my membership allows me to use any of
the 4 in my city, but I use one almost exclusively. It is located
in what use to be an old grocery store. It has way more room
between the equipment, plus plenty of equipment. I don't
have to wait to use the equipment no matter what time I go.

Can someone please tell me what the hell spinning is? I know it has to do with aerobics, but what is it exactly?

my gym has a free weight room, machine room,3 tanning beds, protein bar,40 cardio machines made up of elliptical, lifecycles, treads, stairmasters and a rowing machine,a ladies only section, free spin classes, big aerobic room, circuit training room, squash racqetball and tennis, massage therapy, whirlpool in the changerooms and a steam room or a sauna, and a area for squash/raqeutball guys to have beers

There are only two things good about Bally's

1. a large variety of equipment
2. so many people come in and out everyday that you never get bored of seeing the same people.

A good basic setup - three squat racks and a power rack, two regular leg presses and one of the old vertical ones, the usual benches (two or three of everything), DBs up to 160, a couple of cable machines for back (pulldown/low row) and two crossover cables. Chalk is welcome. We have a grand total of three Hammer Strength machines (bench, pulldown, shoulder press) and a couple of other old machines (lateral raise, preacher curl) and, strangely enough, a set of those leg adductor/abductor (sp?) machines that no one ever uses. And one of those leg presses where you lie flat on your back and push straight out that's been broken for the entire 14 months I've gone there - which is cool in its own way 'cause no one uses those anyway, and it's handy to put your water, towel, logbook, etc on.

Cardio consists of a few treadmills (those are brand new!) and a couple of old bikes and Stairmasters. No spinning here! (Is it just me, or is "spinning" just glorified stationary bike riding in groups?) The only thing I wish we had was another decline bench - we only have one of those. Locker room sucks, but I can live with that.

For variety, I hit different gyms when I travel - last week I went to two different Gold's in Vegas and one in Bradenton, FL. Fun to play around with some of the more esoteric machines, like the cool Strive preacher curl, but I got back home today and it's always good to get back to basics.
