Lolololol

My whole set up cost me about $12K.

I also have a $4,500 acoustic Taylor Guitar.

I have nice things, so what? I have them because I like them, and not to feel better than someone else. Don't be a hater.

I will never again own cheap instruments either. If I have to, I will just save up longer and go without to get a decent model than to settle for crap.

I played for years on mediocre pearls with cheap cymbals, and a couple POS pawn shop epiphone guitars.

Now that I've actually been able to afford nice equipment, I feel like I can take my music more seriously.

Btw BB I returned my sound equipment and had my buddy re-buy about an hour later lol saved me 500 bucks!

Well played BBT !!!!!!!

Okay I got drummers here.

I want to start playing snare, what do u guys think of the piccolos on sale at GC?
Never played before but want decent sound for now

Not sure of your price range but I was looking at a really nice pearl m1330 the other day marked down to around 200 bucks. It's all maple and I've used one before at a competition and loved it

I saw the pearls. But until I get decent I dont want to spring for Pearl.
I figured $40 was decent for a newb. But I hear the piccolos are a little flat sounding.

Buy a pair of sticks and a practice pad for $25 and see if you actually are going to get into it. If you practice for a few months and decide you really want to do it, then buy a snare, and spend atleast $300 if you want something that has a nice sound.

I prefer to play on a pad than an actual snare drum if all I am doing is working on rudiments and technique.

But I cant play the rim on a pad :(

That's also what I would advise.

Hours of rudiments on a real drum makes for a nice headache.

They make some really nice pads with ball bearings in them to give it a bit of a snare sound

Some practice pads have a rim. You won't get the effective rim shot sound, but it's a practice pad.

Trust me, after 15 minutes of doing work on a snare, you'll appreciate how quiet a pad is.

I can hold my own on a live set but I fuc@king suck at rock band

What skill level do you play on? I tried easy and sucked but my bosses son kicked my ass. Expert is more realistic but nothing beats the real thing, every drummer can agree to that.

I don't play on any level lol I've only tried it like 5 times ever and never made it through a song

I am good at guitar but the calibration to the drums always seems off and I can't do it

Oh well, its just a game. I can rip up an acoustic set

I hate playing drums on Rock Band. The triggers do not respond liek they need to. Half the time it says I missed and I know that I didn't. It's crap and it's seriously frustrating.

Having said that, I nailed 86% my very first time playing Tom Sawyer on Expert about 2 years ago and had never even played the game before. There's a video of it somewhere on facebook.

Yeah you have to play so far ahead of the beat that you feel like you're pushing tempo it pisses me off

And nice, I love that song!

Will the rim on the practice pad do an effective job of turning your sticks into splinters?

I actually found the pad with the bearings.
No pads with rims like a snare. I guess ill take the trade off for the sound of an actual snare for reference.

Ill grab a stack of hard cheap sticks incase I want to get fancy

Don't buy cheap sticks. It's not worth the money.

In fact, I will ONLY use sticks made out of oak. They are harder and much more durable and rarely break prematurely. Hickory and maple sticks break much more easily.

Though, you shouldn't be breaking sticks on a pad, and if you are you are doing something wrong hahahaha.

For pad practice, get a pair of Promark 5A Oak sticks and a pair of Vic Firth SBTH3 which are snare drummer specific sticks.

Buying the 12 pair for $20 or whatever is a waste of money. 2 pair of oak pro marks lasts me longer than all 12 pair of those and cost a couple dollars less. The cheap ones break with nearly every rim shot. They are terrible.

Brabbed the pad (its a POS) and some Pro-Mark 5Bs (cuz thats what they gave me)

Fucking pad screws won't loosen

Okay, now learn these basic rudiments for starters:

Single Stroke roll
Double Stroke Roll
Triplet Stroke Roll
Single Paradiddle
Flam

Speed is not the main focus. Consistent strokes that are evenly spaced is more important to work on control.

As a snare drummer, you'd be best off using traditional grip as it is standard for snare drumming. Matched grip isn't used often. Do both, but focus on traditional grip.

my fav drum performance is when the drummer walks off the stage and lets the REAL musicians perform

Muahahahahaha

Another soul converted to the life of a drummer!

Exxxccceellent....
