You consider yourself a bodybuilder?

Very few of us have bodybuilder physiques, take a look at some of the avatars. But nonetheless, I think several here look better than the average male, which some may then classify us as bodybuilders. But 95% of us would laughed at if we stepped on stage.

i dont consider myself a 'competetive' bodybuilder, but yes i hit the gym for a reason: to change the way my body looks..

Exactly. We are all trying to get bigger and leaner and achieve something that is noticable to others. Almost all the pics I've seen on EF of the members are way beyond the average joe and if most of the EF crowd were to take their shirt off they would be noticed as someone that works out. But, there is a difference. If I'm at the beach I stand out as being in shape and being muscular. If Quadsweep is at the beach people will look at him like he's a freak (that's meant as a compliment). That's the difference.

I wasn't saying that just pure size is what constitutes freakishness. It's symetry, LBM in relation to height, fullness, etc. I can't get a great idea on your physique due to you wearing a shirt but your shoulders and arms look impressive. My point is we are all bodybuilders if our goal is to gain muscle and get lean. But, there is a difference. You look good but you're not ready to pose down with a top amature let alone a pro. That doesn't mean your not a body builder it just means you're not a freak. Back to the beach example, if you walked down the beach people may look at you and say, "damn, that guy is muscular" but they probably wouldn't say, "wow, I wonder if that guy's a pro bodybuilder".

i agree with bluetwistedsteel.
i look much better then joe blow on the street, but i would not be confused as a pro or top amature...
Im also not going for that look. we all have a specific look we are going for and we put in the time and disciplie to get there

pro look here is my goal too but still far from it also...

i get asked by people if im a pro once in a great while, but theyre usually by ppl that dont even workout so it doesnt really count..lol..in a gym i usually standout more than 95% than the rest, but those 5% are way way above me, and then that .01% at the pro level,4get it, i look how they did during their first year of training, time to throw in thw towel, lol...

You're a "bodybuilder" if you compete. Other than that, you're a dude who goes to the gym. I have a basketball net in my driveway, and shooting around for an hour every day doesn't make me a "basketball player" any more than lifting weights makes you a bodybuilder.

It's the difference between "training" which means you are "training for something" and "working out" which means you pick up a weight ten times then put it down. Doing that doesn't make yo u abodybuilder any more than shooting hoops in my driveway makes me a basketball player.

there was actually something just like this is the powerlifting forum....it was put best like this in my opinion..your not a bodybuiler, powerlifter etc unless you compete other than that your a gym rat...if i was plat id dig it up but it was very relevant....I just like to lift weights mang.

Amen, brother..

And simply because you dead/squat/bench doesn't make you a powerlifter..competition is the qualifying factor :Chef:

At 300 lbs I get asked if I'm in a World's Strongest man competitor-likely cuz it's reruns are overplayed on ESPN more than Jesse James West Coast Choppers documentaries are played on The Discovery Channel. At 330 lbs people ask me if I play for The Phoenix Cardinals-which to me is an insult cuz I must look too fat to be a BB and The Cardinals Suck. I must look my best under 270 lbs cuz that's when I get the most amount of "roidhead" comments from strangers. I guess it's better than looking like the the poster child for HIV?

Well put.

it's funny most comments i get are, "what team do you play for?" and when I am cut up I get comments like "Are you competing?" but i never competed in a bodybuilding contest. I probably should since people ask all the time. But this is my second year of doing this sport so i think i need some more time

I disagree!!! Kind of..

I have no desire to compete in bodybuilding… I look like I could and like many who responded to this thread, I get asked often if I compete.. The best one was when a boy in my daughters 3rd grade class asked if I was a professional wrestler!!

So, am I a bodybuilder??

I tell people I Body Build!!

This is a transformation that takes years to complete even with excellent training, diet and pharmaceuticals.. But then I can stand in front of a mirror and say I did this, I changed my body, I worked my ass off and have the muscle to prove it..

It is an art form .. Similar to the Martial Arts..(Which I also do)… Am I not a Martial Artist if I do not compete?? I feel like I am..

My 2ml,

Taoiron

In my opinion you're a bodybuilder if you specifically train for size and proportion and you're serious about it. You don't need an advanced physique and it doesn't matter if you compete IMO. But if you lift primarily for strength, stress relief, overall health, sports, etc....then you're not a bodybuilder.

dont look like a bodybuilder...but starting to turn more heads....i and 190 lean and 6'...thanks to this site...i have put on 15 pounds...in the first 1/2 of my 1st cycle!
