Yes I Overtrain, DO YOU?

I know I over train, but I cant stay out of the gym, if I am not lifting weights, I am do cardio, If I am not doing cardio I am lifting, I am a firefighter and work 24 hrs on and 48 hrs off and just feel like I have to make the most of the time off at the gym. Yes we have weights at our station, but you know, as soon as you start lifting, the alarm rings and you are off, I do some cardio at work and stretching and ab work, but thats it at work. But I go to the gym in the mornings and go back in the evenings with my wife. Addicted to the gym, my muscles get tender at times not sore like, but I am almost always improving in shape and strength so I will keep going and have to listen to everyone at the gym saying I am training too much. How many of you all over train. I rest when I sleep at night.
 
As for me, I prefer to worry about undertraining rather than overtraining.

Simple rule for me, if I am hurting to much to go back to the gym, I rest.
 
I overtrain. I haven't taken a week off in about 6 months. I am currently taking my week off now - this is day 4 and I'll probably be back lifting tomorrow or the day after. I did cardio yesterday and then two days before that. I don't think it's a problem staying active and doing light cardio though. I get 10 hours of sleep a night though and never miss a meal. I really needed this time and it is indeed very difficult to stay out of the gym. I hope I can prevent myself from going tomorrow.
 
overtraining is when you feel like throwing up or cant lift anymore to me other then that bang away !!!!! its a bunch of b.s to me no such thing

Trust me guys, overtraining IS real, and cannot only mess up your gains, but a LOT of other things in your life.

I have done LESS training in the past 3 months and have gained MORE.

I don't think i'm over training.....

You can still overtrain on juice. I was opvertrained last cycle and it prevented me from making more gains and I was too stubborn to just take a week off.
 
I used to overtrain. 6 months ago I dropped the number of sets I do for each body part by around 50% , I also dropped the number of reps for each set. I`ve been growing like I have never grown before.
Take it serious, Overtraining is an enemy and should never be underestimated.
 
it took me a while to discover my best gains are made working each bodypart directly, once every 10 days or so. im glad i dont gotta train as much.

on a heavy cycle though i bump up the volume slightly, but not much.
 
Well everyone's body is different. If you are happy and you are content with your gains then don't change. One of the first signs of overtraining I find is having trouble sleeping, so keep an eye on that.

I used to go to the gym everyday. Now I try to take one or two days off each week. At the moment I am taking some time off. I last trained last thursday and won't train until monday (10 days rest). I felt it was time and my body needed it.

I am, however, going stir crazy. The gym is so much a part of my life that I feel odd without it. Tomorrow i'll probably go and do some gentle cardio, stretch a bit, catch up with my buddies, have a sauna afterwards, etc. - just to help with the restlessness.
 
I am also a overtrained mofo ...but I will tell you what .....If I am growing , then fuck it ....I will continue to overtrain ....most of us that have this kind of dedication ends up overtraining

It's the truth. Guys if you are doing squats,deads/rack deads, bent over rows,ect. How the fuck can you be in the gym everyday?
Just because you go to the gym everyday doesn't mean dick.
Cultivate some other interests outside of the gym and the time spent there is not only more productive but you have a real purpose for being there.
4 days on 1 day off training splits,ect. are damn near impossible unless you are on a shitload of drugs provided that people are training heavy and hard.
Even back in the day before ever touched anything I trained EOD and made some of the best gains of MY LIFE. If I deadlifted 500x10 for 2 sets and did a full back workout on Thursday what the fuck would I do on Friday? Train more?
Fuck no. I studied for my nursing exams and went to happy hour to chase some tail then hit the gym on Saturday again. Simple as that.
 
I used to be overtrained, going like 6 days a week and doing wayyyyy too many sets...

Now I go four days a week and growth really has never been better..... :D

if anything, I probably undertrain, I get heavy sets and lift until failure but usually never get sore... could be the juice tho.
