XBox 360 or PS3 - best for gaming?

I haven't touched console games since I sold my PS1 7-8 years ago & sold my soul to WoW for 5 years on the PC, so don't know shit about the latest consoles. The missus & I are looking to purchase a console (she's a growing Call of Duty etc fan) but aren't sure which is best for gaming. We don't give a shit about add-ons like Blu-Ray etc, just which platform is best overall for games & online gaming.

Anyone?

I have both now and each has its advantages.

i been playing my xbox a little more lately but that's because i got it not too long ago and have been catching up on xbox system exclusives.

ps3 has the blu ray which is pretty awesome, and the graphics are typically better on multi platform games.

I like xbox's controller better and the kinect is a reason to get teh system alone. the online interface and store is also 10x better than playstation network

i'd go based on where you can find the better deal. post christmas there's a lot of specials on systems

The only reason anyone would get a 360 anymore would be for Kinect or if a lot of their friends are on Xbox Live. Never understood how PSN is such a step down from XBL other than community features. PSN multiplayer typically has more dedicated server support as well as higher number of players. PS3 also has a much broader range of more impressive exclusives.

Exclusives man, exclusives. Although id and Crytek have said Rage and Crysis 2 will run better on PS3 with identical visuals as 360.

ps3 controller is terrible especially for FPS, and their online is a joke, the menu at start up they have is garbage, not new user friendly

Opinions, opinions. Although it gets easy to tell the difference between Xbox fanboys and PS3 fanboys. The former seems to complain about the smallest things. Kinda like a new breed of console gamers, slowly weeding out the crowd that used to also contain a lot of PC gamers, who have no qualms at all dealing with a few inconveniences in change for a much better overall value.

Out of curiousity what games do you play online where PS3 has more players than Xbox? In general Xbox live has more gamers.

To answer the original posters question: they're both good systems and you can't really go wrong picking either.

I meant how many people are supported in a multiplayer match simultaneously vs sales or install base.

I play Black Ops and Tekken 6 on PS3 and that's all I care about. Oh yeh, and I watch blu ray movies on my rediculous high def TV and big up home theatre...can you do that on your xbox?

The poster isn't asking about blue ray movies on ridiculous high def TV's just for opinions on which is a better gaming system.

If you're into FPS I'd suggest the 360. Any other type of games and I don't think it matters which system.

i can watch movies fine on my xbox and samsung lcd, i could care less about some uber picture quality from blu ray, xbox live and sports is all i need

This is personal taste as well. Unless Halo is your definition of an fps then PS3 is the better option.

how is ps3 the better option, youre controller is terrible for FPS

That reminds me of this gif lol-

Some people seem to have problems with their thumbs hitting each other but it's what you're used to more than anything. I've never had a problem playing a shooter with it anymore than a 360 controller; in fact I prefer the more symmetrical design of the DS3 overall. If anything is a fault it'd be the placement of the PS button, which I end up hitting accidentally more so than my thumbs hitting each other. I also like the pressure sensitive buttons and the more responsive trigger buttons. The top ones on the 360 are way too small compared to the bigger ones. Then there's the Dpad which almost makes you say fuggit and get an arcade stick if you want to get anywhere with fighting or 2D arcade games.

It depends on your friends. All my buds from college have xbox, so that's what I have. There are some good ps exclusives, and there are good xbox exclusives.

I just hooked up my pc that's been boxed up for over a year. I played some CoD4 and holy shit, my bullets actually work. Dedicated servers, larger server sizes, good stuff. Played some Rome Total War and raped some noob with my beastly Carthaginians.
