It's not legislation, the white house has tried to subpoena them, to force them to turn over a random weeks woth of searches, and also one million randomly selected web addresses from google databases.
Yep, it's very scary, but you should know that Yahoo already has complied with the subpoena.

Forgive my soapbox moment ... if you hate one of MM's rants, just go to the next post
It seems to me America's highly vaunted freedoms slip slowly and slowly away, and people squirm a little, then they follow the dictates like good little docile animals and criticize the rest of us who go "Uhhh, excuse me, we have amendments that address shit like this. We're protected against unlawful search and seizure, we have the right to gather peacefully, we have the right to say whatever we want and not fear reprecussions for it ..."
I see a trend, and I find it disturbing. It's like people are on one nationwide dose of Haldol or something. The attitude comes down to yeah, whatever, just let me keep my big screen plasma t.v., fast food, and free porn, life is good ... we attack Iraq when the country didn't attack us, and we can't find any WMDs, uuuh, yeah, war, whatever, when are gas prices coming down it's costing me $65 a shot to fill up my SUV! You want to search my suitcase, good, go ahead, my backpack before I get on a subway, fine, I'll only be late for work and you won't give me a note, cavity search that Amish woman at the airport for all I care, god knows plenty of them have bombed flights. Wire tap my telephone, inventory my web searches, take it ALL, and I get to pay taxes to finance it ... yeah, I understand, no nail clippers on the airplane and I get to watch my son, who has his active military ID, take his combat boots off in the airport ...
Prisons are overflowing, homelessness is up, poverty is up, the rich get richer but are become a more select group and the poor becomes a wider term, now we have "WORKING POOR," People can't afford doctors or insurance or healthcare but we're holding a f*cking war that seems about as hopeless as Vietnam and nearly as unfathomable ...
I'm sorry ... I'm sorry ... I'm sorry ... if I've offended anyone I really am sorry, but I really do love the founding ideals this country was built on and it seems like those are being chipped away but a bunch of hugely powerful liars who don't care how many are hurt, used or abused in the process, and they've found some way to keep everyone overworked and bedazzled just enough so that we all sort of accept it without question ...
