This can't be a good idea from any perspective. Our memories/experiences make us who we are. Messing with that would probably do more harm than good. We'd most likely fuck ourselves over somehow. Some things are better left untampered with.
Just imagine if a rape victim or someone who witnessed close relatives being murdered went along and had those memories erased....then later found out what happened, and why they don't remember it anymore. They'd go through all that pain all over again, and then some.
It could be a vicious cycle.
