Never happened to me, thank Christ. One time though, I punched myself in the crotch really really hard for no reason at all and my testicles swole up a lot and turned blue and I thought they were gonna fall off or something. That was pretty scary so I know how you feel.

It sounds like an anxiety attack. You probably want to seek treatment as this will tend to get worse before it gets better if left untreated.

Thanks GS. I do have anxiety and have for close to 10 years. I was on Paxil for years and have been taking Xanax for the last 2 or so, but only when I have panic attacks. Don't understand why this shit would start up now when my anxiety level is better than it has been for years. Didn't feel like an anxiety attack. More like my airway was blocked, but it wasn't.

I use to have that problem. Turns out I had BAD sleep apnea. Do your lips turn Blue?

It doesn't sound like sleep apnea but you never know.

No asthma here. Gonna have to read up on sleep apnea. Don't know if my lips turned blue. Girlfriend didn't mention it but it was dark.

Yeah it does all the time, although not for as long as it happened to you.

Some people also get it from stomach acid going up and closing the air passage. That's extremely dangerous, cause it might not open unaided. Also asthma like others have noted.

Definitely have it checked out. I should be taking my own advice

Sleep apnea is rare in fit people. It usually happens in obese diabetics. It would suck if you had it, it can be really disabling (since you don't get a good nights rest).
I don't think you completely stop breathing under anxiety.

Solution:
Remove all penis' from mouth.

Just joking. Glad you're alright. That sounds scary.

hey, waking up short of breath or gasping is a tell tale sign of sleep apnea. ill agree its not as prevalent in more fit people but structural abnormalities (ovesized uvula etc..) can cause OSA. if you have health insurance talk to your dr about it and he will most likely send you for a polysomnogram (sleep study). hey it cant hurt.

I thought it was just happening to me? WTF

As much as I want to say it sounds like sleep apnea, you would also have other symptoms like being extremely tired during the day. It does sound like an anxiety attack, but I would definetly get yourself checked by a doctor for any possible airway obstructions. If all of that comes back normal then they will probably do a sleep study on you to rule out sleep apnea.

My first thought was sleep apnea as well. Blocked air passage... good luck.

Actually, many bodybuilders have sleep apnea. Many football players as well. I can't remember why, but a thick neck can make the condition much worse.

There's a recent study that showed that steroids make sleep apnea much worse.

From a lot of people I've talked to, 260 lbs seems to be the weight were many people start experiencing serious sleep problems. A lot of us are technically "obese".

a thick neck will exacerbate any collapse of the airway regardless of the origin of the original occlusion.

Thanks for the info everybody. I'll have to get into the doc soon. Scared the shit outta me. I hope that never happens again!
