windows XP question

i have windows xp at home and its stating that i have five days left to register. for obvious reasons, i do not want to register my xp. anyway around this? i never had this problem with 98

You don't have to register XP, but you do have to activate it. Anything prior to XP did not have to be activated.

I'm sure there are activation hacks out there, but I've not tried any of 'em.

With all the spy spam crap you get, you're concerned about Microsoft ?
If they do or wanted to spy you, it would already be done during the install.

Ok, so your first (and only) post is on a fitness/bodybuilding board regarding windows XP???

There are at least 1.5 gajillion better suited boards for this, but since you asked.

The activation it's asking for is because you, being a technical genius, downloaded and/or borrowed a windows XP evaluation disk. Meaning you get to use it for 30 days and only 30 days.

Now you have a couple of choices:
1.) Actually pay for a license.
2.) Download a license key and pray it works.
3.) Reformat your hard drive every 30 days and re-install the OS.

Seeing as everyone wants something (if not everything) for free, I doubt you'll pay for a license. Best of luck.

how can i reformat my HD? im not used to the new tech- i only know how to format using DOS in the a drive and my laptop has no a drive. can i format it with the cd alone?

You can install XP pro onbefore the date is up or try a hack. I tried 2 hacks that didn't work and then I just said fuck it and installed XP pro.

I had this problem when my comp came back from the shop and had to be formatted,the reregister is easy as shit and is just entering the info you already have.and since the assholes who sold me the pc didnt give me a xp cd,which also meant no activation code I downloaded a program from imesh that finds out the one for the copy on your computer

The activation code doesnt come from the cd. It's calculated from the serial number and your unique hardware configuration.

then it was the serial I didnt have,I am in a big dispute with this company over various shit,my word hasnt worked since coming back from the shop,.they say I must have done something,my burner is broke,my fault again,no xp cd,which is illegal,so the better business bureu is getting a call

everytime this thing breaks the say its a software problem and charge me a fee as opposed to the warranty covering it
