Windows messenger & MSN messenger???

you, mean they are the same thing or they do the same shit??

Don't know why I have both on my machine if they both do the same thing.

I thought MSN messenger is like AOL IM and Windows messenger is like a service that the network admin uses to send messgaes to users in the domain.

I could be wrong, but that's what I though the difference was

This is the description of the "Messenger" service in my XP services menu:

Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

They are essentially both the same program. Open them and see for yourself.

More than likely the reason you have both is becuase your PC came with Windows Messenger (if you have XP) and you downloaded MSN Messenger.

Yeah, I'm runing XP here.

Ive messed around with both of them for a while and I don't see any difference what so ever.

I never downloaded either of them though, both were already of it.

I was just going to disable one if it's just a waste of memory.

You are referring to a different Mesenger here. His question was about WINDOWS Messenger and MSN Messenger.

My impression is that MSN messenger is for users of the MSN ISP.

Where Windows messenger would be for networked Windows
machines not on MSN.

Same service, different environments.
