I'm buying a new wifi...any suggestions?

Wireless networks you butt munchers... You know, computer networks...without...wires.

WIFI is great.. you can drive around town and find a bunch of unsecure networks and browse for free..

This is true.....

No need to waste your time with 802.11a, it's an old standard now. The only benefit to it is that it is on the 5.0 Ghz frequency which is a less crowded one that the 2.4 frequency that 802.11b and g are on. Obviously 802.11g is better since it handles speeds up to 54 Mbps as opposed to 802.11b which handles up to 11 Mbps (plenty for broadband sharing though). 802.11g adapters and equipment are a little more expensive too though.

By the way, most 802.11g wireless routers are backwards compatible for 802.11b.

If you get WiFi make sure you dont have any 2.4ghz cordless phones in the house cause they will screw your net work up bad...

I learend that from Linksys when they came in and did a product demo on 811. g

My boss learned that one the hard way.

We laugh at him.

A lot.

Have you seen this actually affect your connection? I'm just curious because I've used 2.4 cordless phones in my wireless network and not really seen much issues with it.

Thanks for the input guys....

I will check on the cordless phones this evening, as I type this I know we have 2 functioning, had 3 but my daughter used one for a boat in the bathtub.

What about wall thickness?

I have 3 story old victorian house and its all brick. I have 1 notebook and two desktops.

I'm thinking about the Buffalo Air Station. Just so I can say I have a buffalo in my house.

I have my wireless router on the 2nd floor of my house and I can get full signal 2 floors down my basement.

I just hooked up my cousins in the basement of his house and went two floors up and only received "Good" signal strength.

So do one of two things, either put the wireless router in the middle floor so the distance for the signal travel will be less (1 floor shouldn't be a big problem, or if that doesn't work get one of these

Linksys Wireless Signal Booster
