Why is this?

My lifts recently have been going up naturally, 10lbs here, 15 there. There is something I can't figure out though. On chest day, I'll warm up, and then do my first set. The weight for my first set has dropped a bit, but by the time I get to my third set (2nd exercise), the weight I can use increases from the week before. Why on the 2nd and 3rd exercises doeas my weight improve, but on the first set, seem to actually go backwards as far as poundages? My weight for my first few sets doesn't keep getting worse, I just can't put up the same amount of weigth that I had been for the first two sets? Can anybody shed some light on this?

It sounds like you aren't warming up enough, or with enough weight. Try a couple more warmup sets before hitting your first set next time.

YUM

Sets

First warm up set is 135lbs for 12 reps. The 2nd set is 155lbs for 10 reps and the first working set this week was 280lbs for 4 reps. For a while I had consistently been getting 275lbs for 6 reps.

if you jump that high in weight that fast, you probably arent used to it...if you want to keep the reps down before you start your working sets do something like this:

135x10
185x5
225x5
250x4

then do the work sets. most likely if you can do 285x4, then 185,225, and 250 wont be a problem and wont hinder your working sets.
