Why is the only news to get attention about human misery?

Freak Show

New member
Now I remember why i boycotted tv news. Honestly, who determines that the only news we receive has to be about suffering, death, or misery? I watched the news for 10 minutes today and that's all i saw. Every story. Do i have to hear about a toddler being beaten so badly his internal organs ruptured?? And isn't it amazing how they will travel far and wide to find a story about more death and suffering? The next expo was on some murder suicide in OREGON. I live in Illinois for fuck's sake!!! Why go out of your way to do a story on this????? I'm sure originally this was to evoke sympathy for loss of human life, but now i think it has fully desensitized us to how precious life is. When all you hear about is violent death, that happens you know.
Who determines that the only news worthy of print has to be negative?? Don't tell me they can't find anything positive. Oh wait, I'm wrong. They always seem to end with a 10second blurb on how 6 year old Randy Beeman colored in his coloring book for the first time. Then they mention how Randy is blind, deaf, and has no legs or arms. Thanks news guys. Thanks for sharing this bullshit.

I have fresh news, each day, about my ass and my balls. I can begin posting it daily if that will make you happy.
all things considered....yes....yes it will....please spare no detail.

I only watch animal planet. But I can't handle the shows on animal planet about the abused puppies etc....then I have to flip to the spice channel.

I've cried before watching that show too!

I agree....never any good news on tv, Freak! GLOOM AND DOOM NETWORKS!

Do you really want to know?

Because people are generally insecure about themselves and, on a subconscious level, feel better about their own existence.

Knowing someone else got murdered or that another family was destroyed tends to make people hypocritically say "Look at them. I would never do that. I'm not perfect but I am better than they are ".

No one would the news if it was all uplifitng stuff, because people would get depressed.

This is why people are so into news when a famousperson fucks up. Who cares if Kevin Costner gets a DUI? But people do, because he's famous and people love to see them fall. Just like athletes and politicians - their shortcomings are news.

As I have nothing to do for about 90% of my day at work, I usually read the news online all day. Then I'm stuck watching it at lunch. So my the end of the day, between the news and my job, I usually feel like my soul's been sucked out and tormented.

Thus....I really have no interest in going home to watch more news. I like low-thinking-involved tv at night.
