And to make matters worse, I was away last week & forgot to record it, so I missed last weeks episode. What happened??????

Last week, it showed the background of the black guy and his son. How he lost his son to his wife leaving him and marrying another man. How the little black boy somehow has magical powers. He looked at a picture of a polar bear and later one appeared to chase him and attack him.

They started reading the pregnant lady diary she was keeping and the punk rocker druggie guy (from LOTR) was shocked to read that she thought it was just a weirdo and annoying. The lady later came out of hte woods, minus her baby (she had been preggy)

One thing I have noticed is that the dude that is following Locke around (the brother to that spoiled sister) seems to be a queer. I am waiting for him to make his move on Locke and try to feel him up.

The characters I am liking the most right now is Sawyer and Sayid.

Yeah, he is probably the most talented and most resourceful person on the island.

What I haven't figured out yet is why hasn't anyone gone back to where he found that cable coming out of the ocean and followed it to the source?

Yeh, his character is also the most interesting and charismatic IMO. Lots of things don't add up there. I am thinking it is gonna take a hard curve to the supernatural at one point or they will all find out they are actually dead. This will explain why they keep having flashbacks to their lives... maybe.
