Why does insulin resistance make u fat?

DaMan

Just curious... I know slin itself is responsible for shuttling glucose to adipocyte tissue, so insulin sensitivity obviously makes u fat. What about resistance?

Asking cuz I'm planning on adding acarbose to my "supplement" list.

bro the more insulin scensetive you are the leaner you will be, since it will take much less insulin to shuttle the same amount of nutrients, the more insulin resistent you are the more insulin will be required to perfore the same task. you can performe an experiment, try taking 10iu's of slin per day and compare the effects to 20iu's per day. 10iu's will increase anabolism with minimum fat accumilation where as 20iu's will really start dumping fat on you

that doesn't really explain to him why it'll make him fat, lol. i dunno how accurate this is but let me take a stab at it. insulin carries triglycerides, aminos, and glucose to cells in the body wherever they are needed. you take in a certain ammount of slin and it does its job with what it has to work with, once it has shuttled aminos and glucose to all areas or most areas that need it its going to start doing the same with triglycerides wherever they are needed. hence, you get fat.

that does not cover it, cause you can eliminate all fats from your diet, but if you are insulin resistance is high you will still have problems with fat. ALA works by increasing insulin scensetivity, by shutteling glucose into the muscle cells in reduces the need for insulin hence your pancrease does not secrete nearly as much. When its all said and done, insulin is considered a storage hormone (any biochemisty book will comfirm that) the more insulin you have circulating in your system the more likely you will store nutrients as body fat, and that goes for all nutrients not just dietery fats

There is an inverse correlation between the sensitivity of lean tissue and fat tissue. The more resistant (insensitive) you are, the more sensitive your fat tissue is to slin. Consequently you body has to put out more slin to get the same effect as less slin ... this increased output will NOT preferentially shuttle glucose into lean tissue, but instead result in increase intracellular fat stores in adipocytes. hence you get fat.
