Why Do We on This Board call Each other "Bro"?

I thought it was just a body building thing but I asked my cousin that works out in a Houston 24 hour fitness and he says nobody calls each other bro. So I was wondering why do we call each other here bro? Heck, I use to call other guys dudes and things like that. But after being on here for a while ya'll have gotten me to call dudes bros. I am concerned I am accidently going to call a big black dude bro and he is going to thing I made a racial slur and I am going to get my ass kicked. And that not only would hurt it would suck. So why do we call each other bro? Who started it?

I do that with one of my best friends, who happens to be black, he's cool with it.......he's about 250 so one day in the gym some little dude popped off something like "Hey my nigga can you spot me"

I though cupcake was gonna kill him....he yelled:

I do this too. Not because I am being a bad ass or anything it is just because after I do a set I can hardly breath much less talk. So my grunt is more like gasp for air or something.

A white buddy of mine in Jacksonville, FL hung out with a lot of black dudes as a teenager. One day he felt a little too comfy and referred to one of them as "my nigga". They made it clear that that was just something white boys were not allowed to say to a black guy and if it happened again he was going to get his ass kicked.

This has never made sense to me. I can't believe they get mad if someone calls them "my nigga" but they freely call each other that. I mean you don't see white dudes going around calling each other "honkey" or "cracker" makes no sense to me.
