Why do so many people get drunk?

Lumberg

New member
It fucks with their natural state, they lose inhibitions and occaisionally other
desireable things, but the inhibitions is the main reason people drink.
Why should inhibitions be lowered? They are in the way. What of?
Having a good time. Why? Because it is possible to engage in
activities (sex, to wit) that are simultaneously without cost and body-fooling.
The investments of parenting needs not be considered,
at least in a broad sense, thanks to various revolutions in the recent time.
And the fact that you're wasted.
If you were in fact without inhibitions normally, which noone
is, you would be essentially completely rational. Inhibitions, emotions, and
the like are, to wit, your body telling you what to do under certian circumstances
These circumstances just happen to be ancestral and therefore under highly
specific circumstances entirely wrong.
One particular one of these is the teenage years of modern teenage life,
where sex is needed on a regular basis (thanks to evolution there) and yet is not
something that is often done for purposes of procreation (thanks to societal ev,
there). So these base instincts need to be taken care of in some respect, because
there is a highly profitable interaction that can be undergone if and only if they can
be taken care of: That is - you can have the feelings of sex without the whole
babies bit.
People therefore want to get together and explore these interactions,
but in deference to their evoulutionary history, and a lot of society to a lessening
extent, can't just come up to each other and say 'hey i'm horny and you're cute,
would ya mind?'. So they have to get drunk first. (or have a 'serious' relationship,
which satisfies both the society and the body's old-time setups).
Alcohol, then, is not an inherently useful drug, it doesnt really solve any
major bodily malfunctions, and has some unfortunate side effects. It does, however
happen to do fun things to the parts of the mind where inhibitions are manifested,
so you suddenly are more keen on these sorts of interactions, which is good
for all parties involved.

found this on a web log--what do you think?

I have read some about pursuit of utopia through chemicals. It's something humans have done since they discovered the first psychoactive compound.

Alcohol is not one of the compounds I think is that great for humans.

It wreaks a lot of havoc on personal relationships and families. Other drugs are so much "cleaner" yet less accepted.

I drink to make everyone more interesting.

Quite the opposite of me. I am a shy person (in reality) when it comes to talking to anyone other than my friends. After I've had a couple cape cods (not drunk, but feeling the vodka) I speak more freely. I'm able to talk to strangers more easily than normal. Hopefully I'll overcome this disability, and do it without alcohol.

i agree that alcohol helps a lot to lower a person's inhibitions. sex on a little bit of alcohol is great :p

I drink to make others more entertaining and attractive

For me, nothing like permeating the cerebral cortex with a foreign substance and lowering my inhibitions, altering my personality, impairing my motor skills and eventually passing out and pissing and shitting the bed.

Yes, although I did leave out your daily prostate exam. What most men over the age of 40+ call a trip to the doctor you call your daily routine.

actually you've described trips to my dentist. I find it strange that he asks me to take my pants off and sit on an examination table with stirrups.

The even weirder thing is that he asks you to take down your pants and sit down before the last "patient" has gotten up.

I hear that brother,I dont know if I just hate people or I am shy but I only talk to my friends really

But my drinking days are behind me,to much dumb ass shit has been done by myself and others plus it isnt exactly healthy

I drink because I enjoy the taste of wine and beer. I get drunk to make everything more interesting. Most things are more fun when drunk.

well most people who do get drunk say that's it's fun! Well they can keep their fun! Never felt like having to throw up in the middle of the night and having a terrible headache afterwards.

there's a difference between getting drunk and getting wasted

getting drunk is fun sometimes, but i prefer not to rely on it for fun

plus it wreaks havoc on my insides

I once watched a show on the history channel about the history of drug use and one interesting observation they made is that in western cultures "aggressive drugs"(alcohol, cocaine) tend to be more popular than "mellow drugs" (marijuana, opiates) while it's reversed in eastern cultures. That being said, I 've dated a few women who after a couple of glasses of wine would really tear up the sack. Alcohol, the lubrication of the wheels of love. :D

Honestly, I usually drink alone...

I rarely drink more than 1-2 socially as I fear making a career limiting move or making an Ass of myself that I would regret later..

On the porch grilling out with a cold beer on an empty stomach so it hits you quick.. Alone with my thoughts.. Utopia is close ..

im a pharmacist and hear a lot about why people drink

the theory i have fallen in love with is that people drink a lot because their lives are fucking sad. dont want to get into the specifics too hard but there you have it

sorry for being so jaded :D

alcohol is checmically extremely addicitive.

Look up "TIQs" for the science behind it.

because its alot more fun to talk to friends when drunk then when you are sober.

Also, it distracts you from your problems by making htem seem less important. perhaps this isn't a good reason to drink but it does serve this function.

Well said man, very well said.

Honestly I never go "out" drinking anymore, the only time I drink is when the wife and I have some wine on a weekend, or when the wife falls asleep at night and I feel like relaxing a little by myself, with only the dog as company. Nothing better than sitting out on my deck on a summer night, just me and the dog and a bottle of wine, listening to the world go by in the distance...

not really

DO the research sir. The addiction works the same way as cocaine addiction (and all addictions) by stimulating what couldbe called a dopamine feedback loop.

Look up TIQ's. Seriosuly.
