It fucks with their natural state, they lose inhibitions and occaisionally other
desireable things, but the inhibitions is the main reason people drink.
Why should inhibitions be lowered? They are in the way. What of?
Having a good time. Why? Because it is possible to engage in
activities (sex, to wit) that are simultaneously without cost and body-fooling.
The investments of parenting needs not be considered,
at least in a broad sense, thanks to various revolutions in the recent time.
And the fact that you're wasted.
If you were in fact without inhibitions normally, which noone
is, you would be essentially completely rational. Inhibitions, emotions, and
the like are, to wit, your body telling you what to do under certian circumstances
These circumstances just happen to be ancestral and therefore under highly
specific circumstances entirely wrong.
One particular one of these is the teenage years of modern teenage life,
where sex is needed on a regular basis (thanks to evolution there) and yet is not
something that is often done for purposes of procreation (thanks to societal ev,
there). So these base instincts need to be taken care of in some respect, because
there is a highly profitable interaction that can be undergone if and only if they can
be taken care of: That is - you can have the feelings of sex without the whole
babies bit.
People therefore want to get together and explore these interactions,
but in deference to their evoulutionary history, and a lot of society to a lessening
extent, can't just come up to each other and say 'hey i'm horny and you're cute,
would ya mind?'. So they have to get drunk first. (or have a 'serious' relationship,
which satisfies both the society and the body's old-time setups).
Alcohol, then, is not an inherently useful drug, it doesnt really solve any
major bodily malfunctions, and has some unfortunate side effects. It does, however
happen to do fun things to the parts of the mind where inhibitions are manifested,
so you suddenly are more keen on these sorts of interactions, which is good
for all parties involved.
found this on a web log--what do you think?
