why do people clip coupons?

it seems to me that anyone who does is clueless in economics. If you spend an hour going through the paper and hunting coupons, you would have to make up your hourly wage in savings in order to justify it. So, unless you only made minimum wage, you are taking a loss when you hunt for savings.

for that matter, bargain shopping is the same way. shit i do not understand.

Is this a serious question? :D....

Well, I'm not a die hard couponer, but you'd be surprised what you can get. Some places double coupons so if the coupon says $1 it will double up to $2 which makes the item free. There are also places like Walgreens and Rite Aid which have free items after rebates and when you use a coupon for the certain item you can make a little money on the deal.

Lots of the die hard couponers buy multiple coupons for .05 each coupon from companies that charge a handling fee since it's illegal to sell coupons. If they are getting free stuff then more power to them. They sure do hoard, though.

I get free toothpaste, deodorant, juices, pasta, rice, and health and beauty items this way...so don't knock it. LOL Oh..the only problem is when the 200+ lb couponers get free stuff like packaged high-sodium and fat stuff which is bad news.

Hey - you asked. LOL :D

You can easily clip more than minimum wage in coupons, but I don't do it because I don't really buy the shit they make coupons for other than toiletries. Any chicken coupon usually applies to a brand they don't even sell anywhere around here.

If you are a mom and buying the cereals, snack bars, lunch meats, etc you can save a lot.

Coupons?? Just wear a trench coat and steal everything... I find that I can steal much more than the minimum wage...

how long did you spend looking for the coupons and looking for the items in order to save $23? How much do you make per hour?

it isn't really a savings until you account for your standard hourly wage.

i can see a point if it is a hobby. i can see a point for house parents (people who have ancillary things they can do while clipping, like watching the kids).

also, could you have just grabbed a generic brand (taking no extra time) and get savings?

SOMEONE IS NOT GIVING UP ANY OPPORTUNITY COST IS THEY ARE GOING TO BE SITTING AT THE TABLE DRINKING COFFE AND READING THE PAPER ALREADY.

KAYNE

BESIDES, ON A DAY OFF OF WORK, TIME IS NOT MONEY. UNLESS THAT PERSON CAN BE DOING SOMETHING TO MAKE MONEY WHICH THEY PROBABLY WILL NOT BE HENCE THE DAY OFF OF WORK.

COME TO THINK OF IT, IF THEY WERE JUST SITTING THERE READING THE PAPER DRINKING COFFEE ON A SUNDAY MORNING WASTING TIME, WHY NOT CLIP COUPONS AND ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY.

PS...I DO NOT CLIP COUPONS. NVR HAVE, NVR WILL.

KAYNE

yes, that i can understand.

i think i have a different perspective because of the nature of my work now (i always have something i should be doing... fuck i feel like a student who always has a test to study for)
