Why did *YOU* start working out?!?!

Thought this would be an interesting post, sorry if its a repost, but who cares!

Anyways, Personally for me, I started working out to primarily look better, I was skinny, was lagging behind in sports because of my smaller build and size, and when I went to clubs I would always see the juiceheads and feel a little overpowered when it came to picking up the girls since I was small. Basically I just wanted to get fit, a little toned, a 6 pack, and thats it. After that its all history and became an obsessions, and now has very little to do with attracting the opposite sex and more like an addiction to growing, when I step on the scale that shows more weight or lift more then previously its fucking ecstatic. Best high in the world for me. As I grow though my parents and people around me keep telling me that it doesnt "look normal" and youre getting "too bulky", and "girls dont like that"....etc etc....this just motivates me to get bigger and freakier. Still got a long ways to go till my goal but its all good ;)

So why did you all start? :)

If you want peace prepare for war.
There are a lot less people now trying to push me around and i´m not even that big. Yet.

In retrospect i probably should have started boxing or something like that at the same time, but there wasn´t enough time.

Wait!

Nobody told me I had to workoout when I signed up for this site. I thought I could just pay the platinum dues and muscles would magically appear.

Damn!

No takers huh..........well I kick it off.

I used to have asthma as a kid.........bad enough to almost die a few times (according to the docs). I tried lots of sports to try to alleviate this and only wieghts seemed to work. I stuck with it and enjoyed the side-effects (strength, muscles :)). A couple of years ago I got into powerlifting and now I train purely to lift more........looks don't matter, function does.

At first it was to improve my athletic performance, but now I've got different goals, like getting in the 1000lb. club and being big yet lean

I started mainly to just hang out with my friends who were either on the football team or just brawlers. Come to think of it - I was pretty damn skinny...

To increase my performance in sports (mainly wrestling, track and field, and basketball).

Training came natural and I was able to make really rapid gains.

I started training bc;

I wanted to be better than my opponent.
I needed to be stronger to be better.

And there it began. I will never stop. The one constant in my life, iron.

i started liftin weights because i wanted ripped ass muscles

Started lifting to get bigger and stronger for rugby. After hurting my back and ending my rugby playing days, i stuck to the weights because i genuinely enjoyed it.

I pulled chicks prior to looking the way i do now, so no difference there.

cool responses. Am I the only one who enjoys the female attention from having muscle? :D

Your reasons for building muscle are very close to that of mine... I have been fat all my life.. I'm still a little fat, but alot of my size is muscle now... nobody ever messes with me.. I still have to lose more fat for the women though :P. well.. not necessarily.. diffrent women like diffrent builds.. My best friend is skinny as fuck, and he has a woman.

looks at first

then i jsut wanted size

then strength for punching

now still the strength, but i;ve become a lot more self concious about the way i look. i;m gonna cut down as far as i physically can and go from there

This brings in another topic:

How much of the percentage of girls do you think like big muscular guys? I'm not talking about complete freaks because none of us here are ronnie coleman or pro bodybuilders....atleast not in this thread i dont think.....but muscular to the point where its outstanding and eye catching at minimum.

Well.. as of recently I have had multiple people talk to me because of my muscle.. and even one girl said she liked tubby guys... wtf.. so I don't think a "ratio" could be figured.. but the old saying goes: "there is someone out there for everyone"... I do think is true, the more I learn....

Much has to do with where you live, cultural factors etc.

Here in Australia, being big and ripped won't do you much good. Girls here are just not into big muscles for some reason.

Most like a guy who looks fit as opposed to muscular.

I've worked out for most of my life. I was always heavily involved with swimming and synchronized swimming for a looong time. I weight trained up until I was around 19. At that point I wasn't living at home and my distance from my parents allowed me to let the eating disorder issues I've dealt with since childhood to run wild.

Upon getting out of the hospital for being emaciated and out of it when I was almost 21, I moved home. I got healthy and back up to a normal weight. Once I moved out on my own, I did well for a while but as soon as my life got stressful, I started slipping back into old habits. I got to a point where I decided that I either needed to apply my obsessive dieting to something constructive or let myself end up in a hospital again. I chose to fight for my body and structured my entire life around diet/training.

It was fabulous. I felt fabulous.

Then I screwed up my wrist and got surgery. The surgery didn't go well. That was in mid-May. As a result my training got quite thrown off but my diet remained intact. I've gone up in down with my general health in the past 9 months but overall I've done well. Ultimately I want to be happy and healthy....and this lifestyle helps me stay sane. I still backslide from time to time....but such if life. I know that I have a lot of control over my mental and physical health. My hope is that I continue to do the right thing more often than not.

8 yrs ago I started juicing and working out because I was big and fat,met a pyscho broad that ruined me for 5 yrs.Yep,got fat again.

Got over it about 1 1/2 ago and started working out but this time it was my hunting that was the motivation.I was tired of humping hills and being out of breath and half dying dragging a deer out.

Right now I'm in the best shape of my life, not awesome but getting there.

Mad

i was a fatass. i had a huge ass and was fat from third grade till 11th grade. people made fun of me day in and day out. i did not know where to turn. i started to play ice hockey in eleventh grade and the weight just started falling off. in 6 or 7 months i went from 240-160. after i got down i was happy but i was tiny. i started lifting. i got attention from more girls and i liked waht i was seeing. it was jsut for fun at first and for looks. now i cant stop all i worry about is waht i will eat next how much sleep i am gettting and how much the scale and the weights at the gym move. i hav gained 16 pounds in 6 weeks since i started doing things i learned form here. i am about ot break 190:) i plan to go to 200 or so and cut for summer to 8% bf i am at 10% right now at 6'1. i wanna be big and strong and possibly a powerlifter now. this board changed me and i love it:fro:

i've been called skinny my whole life so now i'm out to prove everyone wrong. I'm gonna look 10 times better than anyone else wherever i go.

I started to add some weight so i wouldn't get pushed around in basketball so much, being 6'4 and 150 at 15 wasn'tr my best weight, then the bug bit me and now I want to get bigger and stronger. I do it because I like the results, I am totally fed up with team sports now at 21, I played them at the university level, and I refuse not to be in shape.

Team sports and their political bullshit really piss me off too.......it's all a crock of shit, as where lifting and getting huge all depends on you and solely you, nobody is fucking there to bench you like with team sports, i dont even want to get into this im so fed up with it.

I started working out when I was 14 to put on a bit of muscle for football the next school year.

That was in 1982. I was pretty serious for a few years and then slacked off for around a decade.

I was a big Arnold fan at the time. Back then people never worked their legs very much, It was all about the uppper body. I remember seeing some guys with HUGE uppper bodies and stick legs.

I've been pretty serious about my training for the last 10 years or so. I quit booze and drugs around 3 years ago and have made some pretty decent gains........for an old guy.:D

I was originally in it for athleticism and to lose some fat off. Before i knew it, i started adding mass and pushing more and more weight and now all i want is to get leaner and stronger. :)

To make nelly fags like XBottom self conscious and jealous.

If you dont mind......what is a "nelly" fag?
Are you referring to the pop "rap" artist Nelly or??
Also, aren't you a homosexual? If so, why would you be calling others "fag"?

Why would you be saying anything offensive period? It wont take much to put you in your place.

Please feel free to try... I mean, after all.. with a name like juicey fruit this would make for an interesting catfight.

Its actually spelled "juicy fruit" and not "juicey". And I have nothing against you. Just never ran into a shit-talking homosexual. LOL.

So you admit you didn't spell it correctly by the standards here?

It's all good anyway.

I was bored. That's how it started. I was 14, an asshole, fat, with no self esteem/confidence, and pissed off all the time. So I started hangin' out at the Schools gym. After a few months I wasn't fat no more and started to have muscles popping up. Finally got a Gym membership at 15 and the big guys took me under their wing, and still going.

When I started at 19, it was basically just to attract women.

Now that I'm 26, it's more about being healthy and setting goals. Although, to be honest, I really enjoy standing out in a crowd of my peers. Instead of dying my hair green, or getting a nose ring, I prefer to stay muscular/toned. I like being different, and lifting is my way of doing that.

Also, I get a lot of enjoyment from junk food. lol I'd live on KFC if I could....but I can't. So I keep my diet nice and strict 90% of the time, and that gives me a few days here and there to pig out with no guilt and no fear of getting fat.

cause i was watching wrestling and i wanted to get big like Hulk Hogan/ HHH....LOL
Not to look good in clubs and have woman rub al over me, but that is a very good bonus.
Damn i miss lifting weights.

Football..and self defense. I grew up in a mean neighberhood.

FATTY MID LIFE CRISIS

:lmao:

I've been working out for over 19 years and I wasn't very intense. :( I concentrated on cardio and high reps...hey, I was a dedicated runner. :D It dawned on me after seeing other moms taking kids to their sports activities that I might end up like them..obese and unhealthy. I didn't want to be like that plus with my family history of diabetes and other health problems I feel I have to workout. I also want to continue a legacy of health and fitness for my kids.
