What's up! I have been having some problems with my '87 Toyota Celica. It's a 5 speed, and recently it started "jumping" while in the first gear. You have to hold the clutch for a longer time now, or it will "jump" as if it can't get into the gear, or as if the power is too low and the engine is about to lock up. That kind of "jumping". I really cannot take this car to a mechanic right now, so please help me on this if you know what it is. Thanks!

Oh, and yeah, now it started "jumping" in the second gear too. May be I should stop diving it??

i think

sounds like your clutch is slipping, i'm sure you need a new one if it has never been changed and it's a 1987 model.

Time to send that mutha out to pasture UNLESS

You can find another one at a junkyard, get it very cheap ($100-300) or pull a Satanic Goatslayer-esque jack move, then have a desperate/cheap mechanic or someone you know put it in.

Chances are this wont happen. In that case, look at putting $650-1500 into fixing it. At this point, and knowing exactly what an '87 Celica looks like, its probably time to get a new car.

If I were you, I'd try to part it out. Maybe even selling the parts off of eBay. I'm sure tons of people search for Celica parts. They've been selling Celicas since like 1972...

The engine might also fetch a couple hundred if you're lucky.

Only decent looking Celicas IMO are 1989-Present. The earlier ones are best for a work car or for putting mileage on while your "pimper" car sits in the garage.
