who here is using windows vista?

It was RTM'd on Thursday... so don't bother downloading RC2. RC2 will stop updating anyday now, if it has not already.

It's looks kick ass. The graphics are intense, but you need a MF'r of a video card to do it.

Functionality - like any new OS you have to give time to Hardware Manufactures and Software Development places to shift their full attention to making the shit work on the new 'Platform of Choice' - which will only happen when the OS starts to take over in households and their support lines start ringing off the hook and people stop buying their shit until it is fully working under vista.

If you get it... run it as a second OS.

Released to Manufacturer

A term used when the code goes 'GOLD' it's done. The RTM code is final, gold, etc. The next few weeks gives Dell, HP, software companies... everyone time to get their shit straight on the final release before the public gets it.

It's available on MSDN, I am sure there are Torrents out there of it already.

yeah, there are already torrents out there which use the rc1 keys which will work till june 2007...hopefully a better crack is released during that time.

i give it a week

Does it make the experience any faster or just prettier? I've updated time and again when a new version came out and finalized realized that the computer experience isn't any better then it was back during the Win95 days.

just prettier.

as far as im concerned vista is a waste. it really doesnt add any new features that the average home pc user would notice. aside from all the eye candy which suck up computer resources.

My rule with OS's or other "mission" critical software is to wait for the final release and the first patch before installing it.

you should make your own crack / patch.

you know how to program, dont you?

surely you have sk1llz0rz?

I agree with JH1, run it as a second operating system.

Companies in general have been slow to offer 64bit support on their products (wireless cards...motherf*ckers).

Partition a ~20gig slot on your harddrive and install it into that partition.

I've had office2007 for a couple months now, its still a beta version I believe.

If it ain't broke don't fix it

Why change if there is no noticeable benefits?

The benefit to you *WILL* be that new software coming out will actually work on it.

The benefit to me is that by the time you start using it I will already know how to answer your stupid questions (anybody that works in the industry).

Microsoft OSs are like Black Holes... resistance is futile. The entire industry is drawn in and you will be too.... if not, half ur shit won't work on the linux OS ur using or on the old MS OS ur on... MAC... sure be a hippie reble... that works for some peeps.

You fuggin :nerd:

What software will only work on Vista?

Office 2007 will still work on XP
So will IE 7 and Firefox
etc

We propably have 5 years before we really have to upgrade to Vista

Yeah... you got some time... that's precisely why I wrote "*WILL*"

Slowly but surely all development will focus on Vista... that includes security updates. That's your, FUTURE, benefit.

Kentfield is for development... it has to go back... LOL.. wish I could keep it.

Yeah... my lame ass 7950gx2's seem lame now that I could have a two 8800's eh?

I am going to see about Nvidia sending me some for a 'review' but I doubt it since I can't produce any graphics card review material with my name on it. FHUCK.

you do hardware reviews?

I used to run a rag, then a internet site that did reviews... got hardware / software...

Unfortunatley... couldn't feed a family with free comp stuff... lmao. Now they send everything to big dogs and don't really distribute down to the level I was at anymore.

I still work in the industry, something completely different now though. I get pre-release hardware as RTM for development work, but all that is closely monitored and has to go back... and half of it is so fuggin buggy you can't actually use it the way you would want to. You can only really use it to see if something very very specific will work or not...

how is the kentfield chip doing?

It's fuggin fast if you have something to take advantage of it...

One thing I do testing on is VMWare :nerd: so with enough ram I can run some serious VM's and still have each one cooking with major gas.

The most impressive part, for me - since it's specific to what I do, is how much network throughput I can acheive compared side by side with a dual core. I am awaiting a mobo that can support multiple quadcore procs... stuff like this determines where we concentrate our efforts.

So its not buggy in any way shape or form?

how did you get your hands on one of those?

you dont happen to have a spare raid 5 lying around, do you?

Of course it is... all software has problems especially the RC2 version I was running....

Plus I am running it on pre-release hardware... hell yeah it's buggy.
